Didn't think I could love the guy any more.

Its a bit bizarre the afl players. Media. Fans. Etc. Have bought into the hate of Tommy Lynch.

He is a wonderful footballer and by all accounts a good bloke. What else do you want?

What a bunch of dumbass snowflakes.

Blokes like dursma. Robinson. Collins. Might be a bit special

How much more comfortable does he look in the celebrations this year.
He certainly knows he earnt it last year, especially after his prelim heroics, but he looked at times last year, when celebrating, like he wasn't quite engrained in the club yet (even though he was)...

but you can tell now, being at the club 2 years, he knows he belongs and is 100% comfortable.

That big contract has already more than paid for itself. Great pickup.

Had a quiet grand final overall but CD rated him BOG for the 4th quarter when we needed him. Thought it was easily the best he's looked when rucking in the forward line. Seemed to try use his strength and take possession a more, like Hawkins does.

Looked real good taking the forward 50 ruck contests. Something to work with for next year.

Where Lynch ranks at Richmond goalkicking wise.

I'm going to bump this, where is Tom Lynch at? No one wants to address it because he has helped us continue to win 2 flags but at the moment he is underperforming big time for he's talent he is looking very cumbersome lately & is being outshined by an aging JR.

With the current rules.. I thought Tom would have dominated with his contested marking is he carrying an injury? no doubt the umps aren't giving him any favours.

I'm big Lynch fan btw I just want him back to him playing his best footy.

I thought early against Port he competed really well and brought the ball to ground every time even when outnumbered or out of position. As the game wore on he got beaten more frequently.

Id like to say I judge them both as a team (Tom and Jack) and they’ll each have a turn to lick the ice cream but so far it’s all been Jack this year. His set shot kicking has been disappointing (although generally it’s from pretty far out)

You’re right though, it’s hard to say he’s not worth what we’re paying him because we definitely wouldn’t have won the last two flags without him.

Hes competing well. Always brings the ball to ground if he doesn't mark it. I think he is a victim of circumstance. Every time the ball gets kicked to him its a high ball on his head. Our forward entries are still an issue, as they were last year. We hardly ever seem to get the space in our forward line other teams seem to manage regularly and it just feels like we have to work so hard to get a goal.

I'd like to see CCJ come in and play deep forward and give Tom some freedom.

As far as his addition from a team’s perspective goes, it went a long way to getting us our flags. We tend to have output from him or Riewoldt, which is what we need in our forward line. As far as his individual goal-kicking and marking goes, I expected more from him tbh. We can see how much the opposition gangs up on him though.

But I think it’s evidence for something that’s probably going to be controversial on this board - Lynch and Riewoldt aren’t really working well together right now. Not in the terms of liking each other (we’re not privy to their personal relationship) and it isn’t really their fault either, but I don’t think the way one plays complements the other. This is why I think we rarely see both of them dominate a game.

I think it’s mainly because neither of them are the power forwards like Kennedy, Dixon and Hawkins that can play on multiple defenders regularly so usually one of them gets taken out of the game by opposition defenders. At least that’s much better than just Riewoldt getting ganged up on because we have one KPF free. It hasn’t been much of an issue up until now, but it might become an issue with the decreasing amount of small forward output in our team (we hardly lock the ball in our forward 50 anymore IMO).

What would be interesting to see is adding someone like CCJ into our forward line. If we do and CCJ plays to his potential and size, then I feel like that’ll free up both Riewoldt and Lynch because sooner or later CCJ will start getting attention as well. That’ll hopefully enable Lynch to do what he normally does when Riewoldt is ganged up on and Riewoldt to do what he normally does when Lynch is ganged up on. I guess we’ll probably see how that goes soon (maybe even against St Kilda).

TL;DR - Lynch and Riewoldt don’t seem to play well together. Adding CCJ will hopefully help as it mobilises both Lynch and Riewoldt more.

Has been double teamed at just about every contest hence why JR has looked like the old JR. Playing CCJ may allow us to further stretch defences.
Lol you’ve just concisely stated what I spent quite a bit of time typing. Yes, basically what you said

Don’t think they have every played well together tbh
They both are great but never seem to gell and make each other better players

Not like when you compare the Kennedy/ Darling set ups anyway

Like they get the job done but it always seems very forced

He's lost a lot of athleticism from his Gold Coast days. Still a good player but cannot leap anywhere near as high as what he could a few years ago. Knee injuries have taken their toll.

You really notice because he has a stupid tendency to play from behind and then he can't outleap the man in front so he smashes into them for a free or they mark it.

He needs to adjust and play in front and get on his bike. He is a lead up player with good endurance not a deep forward who will out wrestle his opponent. We're not using him correctly.

I would bring Caddy in as a forward and rotate him, Dusty, and Riewoldt as our deepest forwards.

How about we give Garthwaite a go up forward. I think he is being groomed for that position?

Lynch/Riewoldt v main two opposition forward targets 2021:

I will just look at 6 simple parameters, goals, behinds, goal assists, marks, disposals, tackles, and compare.

Overall comparison across season27 v 9 Richmond16 v 13 Richmond9 v 7 Richmond50 v 48 Richmond105 v 98 Richmond13 v 8 Richmond

The opposition key forwards have never beaten the Richmond key forwards for goals in any match and the Richmond pair are way ahead in this area over the season. The Opposition key forwards have never beaten the Richmond key forwards for goals + goal assists in any match and the Richmond pair are way ahead on the season. It is 31 v 18 scoring shots overall across the season. Goals + Goal Assists are 25 Richmond key forwards v 14 opposition key forwards. Marks, disposals and tackles are all quite even.

Now you could argue our guys are higher paid and should be doing better than these other combinations. Or you could argue our key backs are better than our opponents. Or you could argue each team may use their key forwards slightly differently to us. But if that is the case you would still be seeing roughly the figures you expect to see when you compare.

Whatever our malfunctions, it appears our key forwards versus opposition key forwards is not one of them.

Don't think it is that big of a stretch to suggest Dusty spends more time at full forward than either Jack or Lynch and in turn gets the benefit of having an open 50 to lead into versus Lynch and Jack having to contend with a flooded 50 more often than not.

Lynch is getting minimum double teamed and it's giving Jack a bit more space to work with this year. As long as Jack converts it doesn't really matter if Lynch is kicking them or not. As Dimma has often said some weeks Jack'll kick them and some weeks Tom. Depending on who the opposition wants to target more. I'm more worried about the other forwards not contributing.

That's the problem with rioli out of form, aarts being a witches hat, caddy pushed out, we really need someone to step.up,
