I don't think you are right here, in fact I know you are shockingly wrong. Lynch remains critical to the function of the team, and therefore the development of so many players.

The two games he did not play, v Essendon and Port Adelaide(so not strong teams):

Richmond scored 17.24 v Port/Bombers 32.30.

2025

W/O Lynch Average Tigers 8.5 goals 12 - 63 v Oppo 16.15. 111

V all other teams who would be on average better than Port and Essendon...

With Lynch Tigers 9.9 goals 9.7 behinds 69 v 13.5 goals 11.7 behinds

I have looked at this in much bigger samples with and without Lynch since joining Richmond and it is a similar pattern. When he plays our scoring goes up by around a goal. The opposition scoring goes down by around 3 goals.

He is possibly the most valuable player to his team in the AFL, and that has not changed. He is definitely our most valuable player in terms of scoring differential. You don't offer that guy $400-450k, that is patently ludicrous, it doesn't matter what his last contract was. Other clubs will be all over him, Hawks, Melbourne or Collingwood for eg would offer him $800k+ without blinking. The reason he has such a huge effect on oppo scoring has not changed. They can't leave him 1 out near goals, so have to have an extra number back. Which means we can have an extra player sitting outside 50 ready to defend them coming out under pressure. So our whole defensive structure works much better.

The only way he doesn't end up on fairly biggish money is if his performance somehow nosedives between now and the end of the season, but there are no signs of that at this stage. It won't be the $1.5m he gets this year or the $950k average of his last contract, but it will need to be substantial or he will be gone and that would be very foolish for Richmond to allow that.
We will not be paying Lynch on his performances on the ground but more for his influence on the younger players
the days of paying 12 game a year players $750k are gone and its all about our development and the next phase of the team in banking cap space and getting free agents as well as paying the kids

Lynch has had his time and time to give back to the club and he will
We will never know he salary so pointless debating this but all players take way less when they are 33 years old and hanging on. He wont get $750k at any team with his injury history and age and we wont pay that either

What about cap space for Harley, any nice farmland in the Richmond area?

Well, one thing for sure, we will know if Richmond has offered him $400k, because he will be playing at another club next season.

He is worth plenty more than $400-450k to us. If he goes 1 year it has to be $750k. 2 year deal more like maybe 2 x $650k. $400-450k is basically kicking a desperately needed player out of the club.
Agree. You just have to see how our forward line functions with Lynch in there compared to when he's out. He's still worth 750K a year imo. Especially when we have plenty of cap space.

Basically had to be done. The first year tall kids aren't ready to take the beating that Lynch is taking. Selfless in a sense.

But he is pretty much washed.

Tom lynch when he’s angry

Showed admirable restraint imo in the face of some of the most ludicrously blinkered umpiring you could ever see.

He spoke to the umps about 5 times at length about being held they just refused to look at what was going on. What are you supposed to do?

Butts was holding him repeatedly before duuring and after marking contests. Which was of course the whole reason Lynch had zero possessions at half time. If you are allowed to hold key forwards at all times then none of them would ever get a kick. It was putrid to watch.
