it was not shot in 1 scene, There might have been bits where they shot maybe 30 or 40 mins but you can see many definite cuts where it goes black or they move past a rock.
I think this movie will not age well, It was cliched and soppy and dare i say stupid in spots and if it wins the oscar for best film it would be a travesty. If Parasite was in English it would win with a leg in the air. I do think Mendes is a chance for best director though as technically it was brilliant

Beautiful movie, thoroughly enjoyed it, but didn't quite grip me the way some other war movies have.

I think perhaps the main character was a little too bulletproof, and the way Tommen died frustrated me, was he sloppy and stupid, or not?

But overall, beautiful, very engaging while watching, and a great movie.

EDIT - spoiler tag added.

might want to put a spoiler alert on this

Absolutely loved how this film was shot. You really felt like you were there and it was absolutely superbly done. I really hope it wins an Oscar for cinematography, such a unique refreshingly different film cinematography wise

I liked how they represented that away from the battle zones, the landscape was relatively unspoilt.

this would destroy the premise of the film, but why didn’t they send the message by airplane?

Think Tommen was unlucky

Have a google at WW1 aerial shots of the Western Front to see the destruction and then the nondestructive areas

From the dog fight scene the risks of running into enemy planes may have been an issue

Has anyone tried to visualise how he got to the end point? It was mostly left to right of screen but I lost it when he fell in the River. I suppose the thing was that there wasn’t two straight lines of trenches.

It's Lord of the Rings and the Eagles, all over again.

(I had the same thought, but I guess the movie would be pretty shit if they just flew the message straight there)

Ha ha, don't get me started.

I think it's authentic but maybe it could have been justified a little more in the movie? Reconnaissance aircraft regularly got shot down. There might not have been one available. They were pretty basic aircraft back then severely hampered by the weather.

I haven't seen it yet but the premise of the film doesn't sound too different to Gallipoli when Mel Gibson is running the message to stop them going over the top and doesn't get there in time. Would that be correct or is it a lot more than that?

Holy shit

" Masterpiece gets used way too freely but this movie truly is one.
You'll wait a long time before you ever see another movie like that.

The visuals/cinematography, that’s about it.

It was fantastic. Excellent film.

I just don't understand why he attempted to save the German in the plane crash? Naivety?
Not gonna pretend to be an expert but I think in WW1 there was still a lot of respect and mercy shown towards enemy fighter pilots without their planes.

Looks fantastic and starts great but it goes downhill the instant the German plane decides to crash land right on top of them..

Main character also seemed to be the luckiest man ever, felt like he very nearly got shot at least 50 times.

Worth seeing but overrated, 6.5/10
