Thommo looked gassed at the end of the first final. I wonder if they could have given Peter Moore a run in the ruck and put big Len up forward. Moore won a Brownlow 2 years later when he finally got a go in the ruck as a 22 year old but was not that bad for a tall really young bloke up forward. Poor old Len really looked spent after the draw and then Tommy allegedly ran them into the ground at training the following week.

I was thinking the same thing Seafog, but at the time Moore was still seen as an unpredictable young talent who couldn't be trusted in the ruck against good opposition.
Thommo on the other hand, was a reliable champion who was in brilliant form.
Crackers played well for North too.

You might not believe this but I had a dream a few days before the 1977 GF and I dreamt that Twiggy Dunn took a mark and kicked a goal after the siren to win us the GF, however, he did take a mark and kick a goal that levelled the game for us, how's that for some freaky shit

If it had gone 30 seconds longer I reckon Twiggy might have snagged the winner. He and Peter Moore were waiting for Shane Bond to lob that one in to them with Bond streaming down the cricket pitch flank as the siren went. 10 seconds more.....
I can still see bond bouncing down the wing

Please tell, that would be an interesting story
Carmen was mouthing off to everyone including the umpire and Carbury told him that he was nothing but a thug and to pull his head in, so Carmen just lost it and said I'll show you what a thug is and went bang, liverpool kiss

I was standing in the outer at a Commodore Cup match at Moorabbin, and Phil was playing for Melbourne reserves. He was screaming and swearing at the field umpire, who was just ignoring him. I was amazed he wasn't reported, but apparently that was just the way he acted on the field.

No idea, but I know why he head butted umpire Carbury because Carbury was my English teacher and I still remember him coming to school with hise nose all bandaged up, lol

As a teenager, I used to see a physio type guy who used to work on Carmen when he was a pie. Said Phil, he nicest quietest guy but had a huge hang up re his wife, anyway Tuck said I ****ed your wife so Carmen belted him. In this day and age what Tuck said would be a scandal but back then, run of the mill.

Phil was a complex individual when it came to footy, brilliant but wanted to do things his way.
