Hi to all on the Richmond board. I am a bulldog supporter and i know that the groups don't get on that well but i thought I would tell you a story that may be of interest to you so I hope you don't mind me visiting your board.
I grew up in a little country town in Victoria. One week after Richmond won the 1980 Premiership myself and a few mates were hanging around a roadhouse in our home town. A car pulled up to get some fuel and three really big blokes got out of the car. To say they had had a few drinks would be an understatement. Anyway the three blokes were David Cloke, Jim Jess and Mark Lee. With them they had the 1980 Premiership Cup. As we watched them carry on they called us over and said, hey boys come and have a look at this. We went over and they let us hold the cup and lift it above our heads. One of my mates who was a Tiger supporter thought all his Christmasses had come at once. Anyway they stopped and spoke to us for a little while and were great blokes. They told us they were on the way to Mildura for Dale Weightman's 21st birthday. As kids we all dreamed of playing on the MCG on Grand Final day and winning the Premiership. Well due to a chronic lack of ability I never realised this dream but the closest I got was lifting the Premiership cup one week to the day after the Grand final at a service station in a small dusty mallee town which incidently was in the heart of the Richmond zone. My mates and I often recall this story and laugh about it now. It really was the day we held aloft the VFL premiership cup.
