Interesting fact that it was Carlton that won the AFL reserves grand final in 1990 amazing and was played at the mcg on Saturday October 6
They played Melbourne in the grand final and won 99-81
Amazing
Did anyone know this
Was of course played before the seniors in which Collingwood famously won the premiership
Another stat that Collingwood won the reserves grand final when Carlton were premiership in I think either 1987 or 1995
I think it was 1987
1990 Collingwood reserves just missed the finals in 6th spot

Always thought this was played the week earlier at Waverley park proir to the essendon v west coast prelim.
Never thought there was a curtain raiser before the 1990 afl gf.
Besides wonder if there were still any carlton and melbourne supporters left in the crowd to witness Collingwood winning the 1990 premiership and like could not do any thing about it but watch us win.

Wasn't swapping the jumpers a stupid concept.
Keeping your Premiership Jumper means alot more than keeping the losers Jumper, it wouldn't have the same meaning framing it and hanging it your man cave

Think of it as hanging a game-hunter trophy, like a lion's head. i.e. this is the rival that you took down that day.

1990 was a very interesting year for Reserves around the country... West Torrens, having just played their final game of League football having announced a merger with Woodville for the following season, qualified for finals in 5th position (out of 5 teams) in the SANFL Reserves competition. They would go on to win the Premiership. Much of that side formed the nucleus the 1993 League premiership for the combined Woodville-West Torrens Football Club. What a strange feeling that would be, having won a premiership, but knowing it was the last game the club would ever play.

West Torrens were lucky they were up against Port, who with a team playing in the league Grand Final could not stack their side with so many borderline senior/reserves players.
