I dont know if that is right....

R24 - 1992 Melb V Hawks...

Melbourne was playing for a bit of pride as it was in 11th place.
But Hawthorn had to win the game (and hope the Carlton lost to West Coast the next day) for Hawthorn to move into the Final6 and for Carlton to miss out on the finals.

If Hawthorn lost it ment it would be the first time it missed the finals since Season 1981 - when Fitzroy finished 5th in the final5 (Hawks - 6th).

It was John Northeys last game as coach as he stepped down at the end of season 1992.

Allen Jakovich kicked one of his best goals (this has been in a Melb forum before) - taking the mark near the boundary just near the fifty and then running around the player on the mark (langford?) towards the boundary line (making an even tighter angle) and kicking a remarkable goal. He was then kept quiet for most of the game - but that goal was amazing.

Allen also gets hit in the face by the ball - in the 2nd quarter when going back to shepard a goal by Glenn Lovett..the ball goes through for the goal but bounces straight back and hits Allen square in the face- because he was celebrating the goal, his arms where up above his head, he couldnt bring them down in time. Probably the only time he has didnt look cool on the field.

Close game up until the end of the final quarter; Hawks won - Carlton lost the next day. Melb had to find a new coach. And Allen Jakovich looked towards season 1993 to kick the ton, after injury derailed his season 1992.

Actually maybe you are right...

For you to actually need this piece of ephemera is quite sad.
