Yep, but i think it would be safe to say that every single club in the competition has cheated the salary cap at some stage.

It is just the silly clubs that get caught doing it.

People who bag Carlton for cheating the cap are just naive.

At least we had the decency to not deny it. If you want to call me naive thats ok, but i would call it hatred for them more than anything.

Fair call. I'm not saying that our breach was as bad as Carlton's and the fact that we were open in our dealings with the AFL should be noted. The only point i am making is that i beleive that all clubs would have cheated the cap in some shap or form at some stage. This is why i would never fall into the trap of calling them "stupid bluescum cheating pricks blah blah blah". Having said this, i do hate them as much as the next guy.

Yeah, but what about the rant you get from a carlton supporter when you you do they that sort of ilk to them, it's classic comedy... You know what they are going to say, but it's still funny.

Geelong got him with the pick we traded for Mansfield.

Glad to see this thread recognising that the CFC isn't the only club to have breached. Yes, ours was far worse (thanks JE), but the hollier than thou attitude of some opposition supporters sometimes shows they don't understand their own history.

How many people are aware of St Kilda's breach of the cap last year?

As for the comment about draft penalties not being an excuse for CFC's poor performance...........partly right and partly wrong.

The opening line of my post gives a good indication of one reason why.........very poor recruiting decisions and trades..........Davenport from Saints for the pick that got Barry Hall...........O'Rielly from Freo who ultimately blew the whistle on our salrasy cap issues..........McKernan........it goes on.

OUr list was run into the ground by an administration unwilling to embrace the draft.

The penalties hurt us doubly because of the state of the list.

The irony now is that those penalties have probable heloed us build an even better list.

Add Wells, Goddard and the next year Mclean and we would be O.K., mid table team, and wouldn't have got Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Judd, Hampson/Grigg..........

I hope the AFL thinks a bit harder if there is a next time for salary cap breaches.............in the immediate, loss of competition points wouldn't have hurt us as much.......in the long term it owuld have been a much greater penalty.
