1999 repeats

Rooboy96

There are similiarities, but it is the type of player that is injured that counts, and I would say that this year is a carbon copy of the 1997 season. Here are some interesting omens that occurred in both our recent premiership years:

It was the first year we had new sponsers (ie: 96 - Hypertec, 99 - Mazda / Smokefree)

We finished 2nd after the Home & Away season in both seasons.

We played Brisbane in both Prelims and won by similiar margins.

Essendon lost both their prelims by a point.

In the week leading up to the GF Corey was under an injury cloud (in 96) last year it was Stevo.

It is so uncanny, it is scary, so history does repeat itself. The comparisons between 97 & 2000 so far:-

We lost both our opening games to teams where we are expected to win.

Too many players were reported and suspended in both years.

We had a lot of injuries to key players.

Cheers

Rooboy,
there are a few parallels, but I don't think we'll fall in a hole the way WC did (certainly hope we don't). I think last years prelim result will have stiffened the resolve of the players. Lord knows they've got some atoning to do, particularly with everyone constantly reminding them of it.

Dave,

I hope it a Roos v Bombers Grand Final, easily the 2 best Vic teams in the comp over the last 2 and a bit years, sorry for being partial to Vic teams, I can't help it.

It would be the toughest and hardest Grand Final in years, let's see if the bombers give us what we want.

We roos will be waiting.

i think evryone wants that North V Bombers GF. The AFL deserves the spectacle of a GF involving these two great sides. It'd be an epic battle. I personally, as a bombers fan, would be dissappointed if (assuming we do make it to the GF- lets hope) North wasnt playing against us.
It was funny reading posts here about 3 weeks ago, with ppl writing off North Melb already.pure stupidity. They'll be up there in the finals. Make no mistake.

BOMBERS REIGN SUPREME.

At this stage, it is looking like a repeat of last year (amazing how things change in a couple of weeks), however the injuries to key players and a few stupid suspensions we could do without. I also heard today, that Stevo could be at least another 8 weeks away.

It will be worth the wait.

I think Stevo needs to get a few other sore spots right (other then the cut face and upper body) before he thinks of a comeback, just before the finals would be good, as long as he has time to get cherry ripe.

Stevo a true hardnut.

I think I can speak for the supporters of the other 14 clubs in saying that we do not really want to see an Essendon vs Kangaroos final.

But on current form, it is certainly a possibility.

However, I do want to take issue with the arrogance of some supporters. I mean, to be raising questions about who we will be playing in the Grand Final and do you think we will remain undefeated throughout the year is a little premature. OK, perhaps I am just sick of the performance of my own team but the season has another 16 weeks plus finals. And we all know what can happen in finals!
