I have it on good authority that the Bombers are going to take Ben Mcevoy with their first pick.
Apparently your recruiters rate him higher than Kreuzer.
BTW I know nothing about any of the kids in the draft, so i'm not suggesting this is good or bad.

Anyhow, we'll all know in time.

It is a possibility, however I would think we would be looking at Alex Rance before McEvoy. We have enough tall forwards. I know McEvoy can ruck aswell, but how many ruckmen can we use high picks on and they turn out to be duds. We need a tall backman and Rance is just that.

I'm still trying to figure out if your calling Laycock and Ryder duds...

I'd be surprised if we picked up a ruckman with our first pick, but you can be assured that whoever we get we'll rate above Kreuzer, McEvoey or whoever that may be.

And what do you call "good authority"?

I was more talking about guys like Cartelidge, Bradley and Bolton. I know Strictly speaking, Bradley and Bolton arent ruckmen, but they have filled in there in the past. If we were to take a ruckman with our first pick, I'd like someone like Laycock who is a pure ruckman, not someone who can play all over the place. We have too many of them who do nothing in most positions.

I suppose I should reword the first post as "we shouldnt be looking at guys who can play in various positions, we have had too many of those guys who are duds"

I think we are in a bit of a difficult situation really. Ebert would be the best choice IMO, but we really need a tall defender to take over when Fletch and Mal leave. We need to get some development into whoever we pick for this role, so we should be looking as that as our first option IMO. therefore, I think Rance should be our first pick.

And Kepler Bradley is better than Craig Bradley:rolleyes:

Our slow midfield is a bigger area of concern. We still have Fletcher/Mal for 2 more years, I would hope like heck that if Ebert is availiable with our first pick, we will take him!

The thing is, we are more likely to get a decent midfielder with our 2nd pick than we are to get a decent KPP with our second pick. More midfielders are drafted, and therefore there is more depth there to play with. I'd love to have Ebert, but I think we need Rance more ATM. Just a thought anyway. If we could somehow get both, it'd be perfect.

Completely disagree with this. When you are drafting you have to look at the problems you have to face in 3 years time not now. We have a lot of young midfielders with most of them having good pace. The biggest worry in my eyes is if Fletch and Mal are not around in 2009 forcing us to have to fill holes such with players such as Johns/Gumbleton/Neagle/Lucas and NLM playing tall. Key Backs should be our number 1 priority.

There's drafting for position and there's drafting for talent.

There are only two pure defenders good enough to go early, Pears and Rance and Pears is only really borderline.

Rance is good but I think might be more suited to being a 3rd defender in the end.

On the other hand, we'd be almost guaranteed of getting a very good midfield prospect, hopefully Brad Ebert. They could step straight into our best side and be a mainstay for years to come.

We've drafted Ryder and Gumbleton with picks 7 and 2 in the last 2 years, it's time we get a midfielder with our first pick.

Of course it should be best availiable but if there is any 50/50 propositions we need to go the key backman route. I do not think that superstar midfielders are crucial if you have enough depth you can be more than competitive but having mediocore key position backmen will really hurt you.

By your reasoning we should be top 4 this year as we have a great forward line, and a great back line. If we can get Ebert there should be absolutely no hesitation in grabbing him. Rance becomes an option when our draft pick means we cant get any of cotchin, morton, masten, ebert, palmer.

Yes and recruiters have a history of telling everyone who they are going to take with their draft picks
FFS why do people have to post this F****** BS every year.

I said if you have depth through the midfield you can cover a lack stars. We didn't have enough depth through the middle this year. Collingwood did not have any stars through the middle but were good through the middle because of thier depth. If it was a choice between say Rioli and Rance we should take Rance.

Precisely.

Chances are that they're looking at him, as you do any possible first round pick, and have spoken to him once if not at all.

If you're trying to start a rumour, try strating after the draft camp and the new coach has been appointed. It's the only way it's ever going to have any credibility.

Just wondering seeing as we have not got a Coach signed for next season who makes these calls....

Agreed! There is not one recruiter in Australia who would rate McEvoy ahead of Kruezer. I wish we drafted Leuenberger though:mad:

Give me a star CHF over a star ruckman any day.

Jonothan Brown is way more important to Brisbane than Dean Cox is to WCE

I'd take Gumbleton over Leuenberger anyday. He's really shown some good signs this year.

Keep in mind we won't be able to see what Gumbleton can really do until he's at least 22.

Chances are the team that drafts him will say they did though :p ;)
