For those of you who are "CBF" to do a phantom at the moment and want to put their view out with the first round of the 2009 draft with maybe a bit of an explanation

For me at the moment it goes like this-

Priority selection
1. Melbourne- Tom Scully: Absolute given, will lead Melbourne to their next premiership.

First round
2. Melbourne- Jack Trengove: As good as Scully if not better!
3. Richmond- Dustin Martin: Has risen in the past month or so after some stellar performances, looks a great fit for Richmond
4. Fremantle- Anthony Morabito: The Local boy who you can already picture in dockers uniform
5. North Melbourne- Ben Cunnington: Some confusion of who the roos will go for here but they ultimately need a silky skilled midfielder
6. Sydney Swans- John Butcher: Swans consolidate last years pick of Johnston backing him up with Butcher. Will be a vital combination with White playing the third tall up there.
7. West Coast- Kane Lucas: The Scott Pendlebury clone, suits West Coast's needs perfectly.
8. Port Adelaide- Gary Rohan: The explosive Ranga to provide Port Adelaide with some extra X-Factor to support their latest star recruit Jay Shultz :p (Sorry i couldn't resist)

9. Port Adelaide- Luke Tapscott: Backs up their latest pickup with the guy with the most penetrating kick in the draft.
10. Essendon- Matthew Panos: No Lucas, No Lloyd... Step in Matthew Panos. The key forward Essendon are in need of.
11. Melbourne- Jake Carlisle: After taking two gun midfielders in the first round they take probably the second last decent KP in the draft.
12. Carlton- Daniel Talia: Carlton look to strengthen their defence with Talia. Talia at fullback and Henderson at CHB will be a lock in the future.
13. Adelaide- Lewis Jetta: Adelaide take the explosive wingman. Adelaide's list covers about everything but Jetta will provide some crucial X-Factor and can play from round 1.
14. Sydney Swans- Koby Stevens: Swans look to strengthen their midfield with a good skilled hard working midfielder.
15. Western Bulldog- Allen Christenson: The bulldogs get an outside midfielder with pace who can replace Eagleton.

16. Port Adelaide- Aaron Black- The Power go tall after getting a flashy mid and a hard working tall mid.
17. Geelong- Mitch Duncan- Geelong look to strengthen their midfield after going tall in the first round last year.

Essendon wont get a forward. We need midfielders. We already have Gumby, and Williams as main tagets, with Monfries and co to back up.

I really think that is risky... If Gumby gets injured again or can't get back to form ever again then you don't want to just have Williams up there...

They need a buddy, travis cloke, barry hall, pavlich type player who provides that flare to lead up the ground. Panos offers this.

Neagle is the other one, he just needs his fitness up there.

We need midfielders so i think we will hopefully take the best avaliable.

We also have Neagle, Hurley, McPhee and one of Hille/Ryder resting.. We do not need a KPF. Best available midfielder please.

I know where both of you are coming from, however unless butcher falls to pick 10. I doubt we will consider a KPF.

Pears hooker backs. Hurley will be played up forward IMO as he was for the last part of season and showed a lot.

Neagle, Hurley will be our KPF atm with Ryder and Hille resting. Pushing for their positions will be Daniher (can play back as well) and Gumby. Also have Still developing.

I think at best we will use our last or 2nd last pick on a tall but i would lean towards a ruck then a KPF.

Bloke with the flare ur talking about is hurley :thumbsu:

Why would we want to strengthen our midfield.
I dont think it can be strengthend.
I think we will go for defenders in this draft with scarlett, harley and milburn to all retire in the next couple of years.
We only have taylor as our young tall defender.
gillies is not as tall to be a tall defender.

You guys also took a KP first round of last year so I can see you taking the best available.

Also, this thread is for those to put down their first round not my own phantom draft :thumbsu:

As the other Bomber supporters said - we need midfielders!

We've got enough forward options:

Gumbleton (will have a break out 2010 - I hope)
Neagle
Hurley (2nd half of the season showed how good he was)
Williams
Daniher (was a foward as a junior)
Still

Hille/Ryder/Laycock (if he plays) when not rucking

Essendon to take a midfielder please!

Aaron Black will go much higher dont be surprised if he is the first key position player drafted.
Vardy will fill a ruck need for Port, they only have Brogan
Panos will be lucky to be drafted in the first round.
Gysberts Bastanac will go before Panos

Dude, we got Hurley, Daniher, Neagle, Still, Ryder, Hille and Laycock.

We don't need another forward. Just because Lloyd and Lucas retired doesn't mean we need forwards.

OMG mate, i dont think anyone has already said that

For Geelong surely it also depends on the view on their 2 All Australian key defenders who have long term injuries. If they project to come back then they are far less in need of backs.

Priority selection
1. Melbourne- Jack Trengove: Better than Scully!

First round
2. Melbourne- Tom Scully: Absolute given he will get picked second, will lead Melbourne to their next premiership.
3. Richmond- Dustin Martin: Has risen in the past month or so after some stellar performances, looks a great fit for Richmond
4. Fremantle- Anthony Morabito: The Local boy who you can already picture in dockers uniform

17. Geelong- Mitch Duncan- Geelong look to strengthen their midfield after going tall in the first round last year.

1. Melbourne- Scully.
Easy choice here can't see that changing.
2. Melbourne- Trengove.
Might play with the idea of go for Martin but I doubt it, can't see Butcher here either.
3. Richmond- Martin.
All the talk is Dustin but I think Butcher might come into play also.
4. Fremantle- Morabito.
Local boy if he is available can't see this not happening.
5. North Melbourne- Cunnington
Another team that might have a serious look at Butcher, but I think there need for a key forward is equal with a midfielder, and they might rate Cunnington higher. Even though if it wasn't the case it would work much better for the bombers.
6. Sydney Swans- Rohan
Some will have Butcher here but with Johnston, White & maybe Grundy think they are fine, instead adding some speed and X-Factor to their team.
7. West Coast- Lucas
Lewis Jetta the other alternative but Lucas would be too good to pass up on adding a outside silky quick and skilled mid to their growing list of mids mainly who are insiders.
8. Port Adelaide- Butcher
Butcher slides to pick 8, Port needs key forward badly and Butcher deserves to go around this region.
9. Port Adelaide- Tapscott
Ports 2nd pick they go for midfield adding some local home grown talent, who has an awesome kick and adds some toughness.
10. Essendon- Melksham
Bombers simple go next best available mid, that happens to be Jake will fill the role of inside/outside mid which the club has targeted.
11. Melbourne- Talia
After getting two mids, go for a tall, with the hope of playing him as a forward.
12. Carlton- Griffiths
Add another young tall forward, after losing fev.
13. Adelaide- L.Jetta
Add some real pace around the packs or up forward, only problem here is how comfortable is he leaving WA.
14. Sydney Swans- Stevens
They got some x factor with Rohan now add a inside mid who plays that sydney style so well.
15. Western Bulldogs- Sheppard
Was really unsure what the dogs need, with enough developing forwards and now B.Hall thought they would fix some other areas, Sheppard is a quick, half back or midfielder.
16. Port Adelaide- Vardy
Ports other need is a ruck men, Vardy fits this nicely.
17. Geelong- Christiansen
Local boy.

Who's left;
Talls: Panos, A.Black, Fitzpatrick, Carlisle
Smalls: Bastanic, J.Gysberts, Duncan, Moore, Colyer, A.Carey, Crichton, Harwood & T.Taylor

PP
1. Melbourne - Tom Scully. Obvious.

First round
2. Melbourne - Jack Trengrove. Obvious.
3. Richmond - Dustin Martin. Will go for best available rather than needs me thinks.
4. Fremantle - Anthony Morabito. They'll pick up a very good local boy.
5. North - Ben Cunnington. Hard nut player they'd love.
6. Swans - Gary Rohan. Seems almost like a perfect fit.
7. West Coast - Kane Lucas. Local pickup. Could go Butcher.
8. Port - John Butcher. Key forward, that is too good to let slip.
9. Port - Luke Tapscott. Player Port needs.
10. Essendon - Lewis Jetta. Won't care about age, as they want to win now.
11. Melbourne - Jake Carlisle. Certain for a KP in the 1st round.
12. Carlton - Daniel Talia. Strengthen defence.
13. Adelaide - Koby Stevens. Best available. Adelaide also doesn't have any specific team needs.
14. Sydney - Jake Melksham. Best available.
15. Western Bulldogs - Aaron Black. Will go for a forward I think.
16. Port - Travis Colyer. Port needs speed in its midfield, and Colyer shows a lot of potential.
17. Geelong - Jordan Gysberts. Best available.

1. Melbourne - Tom Scully
2. Melbourne - Jack Trengrove
3. Richmond - Dustin Martin
4. Fremantle - Anthony Morabito
5. North Melbourne - Ben Cunnington
6. Sydney - Gary Rohan
7. West Coast - Jake Melksham
8. Port Adelaide - John Butcher
9. Port Adelaide - Kane Lucas
10. Essendon - Jordan Gysberts
11. Melbourne - Aaron Black
12. Carlton - Luke Tapscott
13. Adelaide - Lewis Jetta
14. Sydney - Daniel Talia
15. Western Bulldogs - Jake Carlisle
16. Port Adelaide - Koby Stevens
17. Geelong - Brad Sheppard
