Everyone's going to have a dip at Watts until he does something major, that much is obvious.

As W=L mentioned, everyone loves to hate a no. 1 draft pick, particularly one who is a private school boy with a touch of confidence/arrogance.

He'll be a star, he has too much ability not to be.

Geez i copped a bit for putting my opinion out there.

maybe i went a bit O.T.T by saying he hasnt shown ANYTHING, but obviously it hasnt been as much as the other boys from the top 10 have. granted he hasnt played much.

Being the number 1 pick does bring the most expectation which is why i expect him to show more than every other player when we see him play, and from the games he did play IMO he didnt.

Maybe the sample size wasnt big enough of an oppurtunity too, ive just been so impressesd by the other five I mentioned that Jack has alot to live up to be better than that. Which i think is a fair statement.

Hurley, Hill, NN.

Still reckon that we got pick 5 right with Hurley. Will be a star in the next 2-4.

Having seen a lot more of Watts than opposition supporters I woudn't change the pick. Watts is the most talented footballer of the lot. But until he does it at AFL level the doubts are justified - well, as justified as they can be for a player that's a year younger than many of that draft and is a skinny tall.

It's funny though. Gumbleton was a no.2 pick, is 21, can't kick, yet doesn't get anywhere the publicity of Watts.

Of other clubs I'd take Hurley, Rich and Naitanui in that order. Ziebell is ok, but overrated by North fans.

That is a fair post and there are a lot of reasons why he didn't perform as many (not me) expected last year and they have all been documented. I don't think the club would have played him at all given thier time again.

When he plays this year he will play well, but not as people expect. It will be as a floating half forward. It will be at least another season till he can hold down a KPP spot.

I don't get that either.. 3 years in the system has shown diddly squat
His injury problems have been well documented and has only played 8 games thus far, 3 of which have been this year. He has shown a bit in this year's games.

On topic, chose Hurley because he is exactly what we need.

god that's typical. You have seen so much of Watts you know he's better than anybody, so no-one else's opinion is as meaningful.

And yet, in the same breath, you spout an absolute fallacy that Gumby can't kick.

He can kick. He slotted one from 50 on a 45 degree angle on the weekend. Did you see that? Or was that a fluke? Maybe all the long goals he kicked in his junior career that helped justify a 2nd draft pick were flukes, too

Breath-taking hypocrisy.

Particularly from a Melbourne supporter. You'd think, you'd just think, that if anyone could relate to having to wait for the body & confidence of a KPP to develop, it might be Melbourne supporters...

But no. You come out with the same groupthink bullshit you condemn everyone else for.

Maybe you'll cop karma, & not see Watts at all for another 2 years, like we've had to put up with. Then we can rubbish him for not being able to do anything at all good, as he's pretty much so far shown. Personally I think Watts will be a gun, but Gumby has played 7 games & shown a shitload more than Watts.

Hypocrite

Jack Watts has copped 100 times more s--t and he's only been around a year as opposed to SG's 3. what are you whinging about

Watts has been injured since before he got to the club too but that hasn't stopped people, including the media, from s--tcanning him at every opportunity for not leading the coleman already

Because to a Melbourne poster, any opinion re; jack watts, is wrong.. If it differs from "he's going to be a star.. no doubt about it", then you're wrong.

Just the way they are I'm afraid.. A lot of insecurity

I didn't say anything about Watts.

no but your response to my questioning why Gumbleton gets off so easy is that injuries excuse him. Why does the same leniency not apply to Watts?

I was suggesting that it's a flawed comparison because it's not as if Gumbleton has had 3 full years to live up to his potential but has instead shown 'diddly squat'. He has only had 8 games.

I think you'll find that most posters outside of Bay 13 are willing to ackowledge Watts' potential and his need for development. I haven't read anyone say that he should be fulfilling his #1 spot right now. Perhaps there is just more scrutiny of him because several of those taken after him have had the chance to perform on the big stage and have done extremely well. Also, being one of the more recent crop of draftees, it has garnered more attention. Nothing sinister.

hypocrisy, champ.

Bit rich for you to sook about Watts copping shit for not getting on the ground, but still slag Gumby (who incidentally has now shown about 10 times what Watts has). Who gives a **** how much shit he's copped, two wrongs don't make a right. What if Watts doesn't come on, his back stays shit, & he doesn't play for another 2 years?

I mean, who gives a **** if SG has been around for 3 years and Watts one (it's actually 2 now, but let's not quibble...). If they don't get the chance to strut their stuff, it's unfair to write them off, yes?

If yes, the stfu & stop arguing like a little bitch

Ever so slight an exaggeration that. The guy had a fair point.

Chris Connolly has a bit to blame by rolling every draftee out for the cameras as the next big thing, IMHO. Sheedy did it too and it just made him and them look silly if they didn't set the world on fire.

Watching the Under 18 Champs in 2008, the two that stood out to me were, Watts & Rich.

We all know talls take time, so we will see.
