Hille & Laycock in the same game is a waste of space making us tall and slow. Lucas at CHB Paddy & Laycock/Hille rotating forward and ruck then we can bring in someone that can actually run.

Laycock is our man - He is freakishly talented for such a big man - His skills are the equal of Dean Cox he just needs to be able to run out a match.

If I were the coach this pre-season I would seriously wedge my boot so far up his arse that he would be begging to run more laps

If you're pinning your hopes on Laycock leading our ruck division, you're in for more heartache for years to come. He's not the answer and definitely not our savior. Not a patch on Cox by any stretch of the imagination.

Definitely not a patch on Cox however he does show some promise. He takes some decent grabs and has reasonable skills but I think as this thread has stated that his fitness/work ethic are the underlying problems. Get them under control and he will be a very decent player.

still has quite a bit of improvement to go in that area

Watch how many times he reads where the footy goes if he miss's the tap ;)Quite often if it is close enough (and the other ruckman ahsnt hit it away)he gets possesion or is the one trying to tackle the player with the ball . He reads it fine , he just needs to win more taps.

Still think he jumps too early and gets caught underneath too many times, for a bloke with his leap for his size he should get his hands on it a bit more than what he does, there's definately improvment in him in that area

Totally agree.

Smart coaching by Harvs.

He knew that Hille and Laycock's taps to advantage were non existent. Hasleby, Bell and others were winning the ball so he put a running tall in there, Gilmore, to burn off Laycock and Hille.

I think we will have to see Ryder play a lot more in the ruck next year.

There should be about 10 games next year were we go into the game with Ryder + Hille or Laycock as the ruck duo.

The only time he contested a ruck contest he hit it to our advantage. He definately has the ability to be a great ruckman it is just a matter of determining whether or not he should play CHB. I reckon he would be more valuable as a ruckman as we have a number of guys who could potentialy fill that position (Lee, Johns who have not shown much, but could still be decent CHBs) whereas our ruck stocks are far more limited. I think he should be groomed as a ruckman and say in 2-3 years time he can replace Hille and we go with a Layock-Ryder ruck duo.

so have we all got our boxes of tissues? get over it! if we had won none of this would have come up! obviously when a team losses there are players who dont play well

that's nice and all but we didn't win, we lost. and these two big dopes were useless.

they still would have been put under the microscope if we had of won

I think Laycock has really improved this year. Hille has gone nowhere. I would consider him for trade bait if Ryder had another season or 2 under his belt to take over as the backup ruckman. At this stage though, we still need Hille.

Hille, at his best, is one of the best ruckman around. His only problem is his inconsistency, if we fix that then we will have that area at it's strongest since our large array of ruckmen in the late nineties early 2000's. Hille (ruck) is not the area that we should be focusing on.

The irony is the best ruckman we've had since Madden retired is one John Barnes. Head and shoulders above Hille & Somerville he was, even only when he returned to us after 2 seasons.

as stupid as it sounds i wouldn't be surprised if some of the boys at the club read some of these posts.

i'm not saying that we infuence the team selection, but our 20 cents worth perhaps is taken notice of

although in saying that it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the two big dopes played like crap
