That was a awful loss but it felt like it was coming lots of players hit the wall today
Hickey injured was the turning point but Reid did ok.
2 point loss disguised as a 6 goal loss so we keep percentage.

Mills to DEFENCE PLEASE. Anyone defending Mills in mid, that is his consistent performance. How many times do you need to see it before you realise Mills is an ELITE defender and NOTHING midfielder.

Either JPK doesnt play mid (doesnt happen) or Mills/Parker goes. Terrible. Their transition from Defence into their attack was free flowing for the entire game. Too slow.

Said all I need to say about the midfield.

Clearly the kids hit a wall. They tried hard but with McInerney, Warner, Wicks, Logan, Braeden and, to a lesser extent, Errol, we were basically playing with a few players short. Which isn't ideal in a war of attrition, which derbies typically are. We miss Rowbottom.

Buddy activated beast mode. His recent form - 5, 4, 3, 3, 5 - is unbelievable. Hickey activated beast mode. Hayward is living proof that a reserves apprenticeship doesn't have to be a death warrant for your career. Melican was also impressive, but had a few head-shaking moments (who didn't?)

Hewett did a good job on Greene, he had his opportunities but I wouldn't say many were easy...

We probably had this loss coming. We now know what our best, and what our worst, looks like. Good news is we're 4-1 with sixteen matches left to figure out how to tip the balance back in our favour.

Reid's last quarter was really good but didn't get the support from the midfield

McDonald rested, McLean in. Parker moved to the forward line and the midfields read the riot act. Unfortunately the attacking gameplay has turned a few into complete front runners who don't put the effort in both ways. Parkers pathetic decision to soccer the ball 30 m backwards instead of locking the ball in our forward line should be played back to him on repeat all week, because that was the moment the game was lost.

FFS. He was our best tall defender all night. McCartin had an absolute shocker and yet no one is saying a word. Honestly, it's pathetic.

We have been up for a while, injuries, mainly Hickey and Blood rule for Reid hurt. You could see the loss from about mid way in 3rd qtr. GWS poor kicking kept us in it really. Will be good to see how we bounce back.
