Horrible luck for TBC but comfortable with Ryder rucking and support from JD and/or Jake.

Now if Ryder gets injured.....we're farked.

The reality of our non-existent ruck depth has really just hit home for me....suggest Paddy be locked up when not training and when at training be 'untouchable' during contact drills!

Did is say he would miss three months of training? If so that means he wont be playing for 4 - 5 months time. On that basis you'd expect him to miss upwards of 12 games.

Could be a blessing in disguise, assuming he comes back strong, because playing Thurlow can develop him and then Bellchambers will come back as an upgrade. Though I'd probably prefer Paddy to ruck 80% with chop outs from Carlisle and Daniher.

A tad captain obvious here, but the added issue is that with an injury like that, he really won't be able to do much endurance work.

So when he comes back, his fitness would be pretty ordinary, you'd think. Might see him playing more forward when he comes back, in that case.

His last 2 lines at the end pissed me off

"Essendon had hoped that the post-peptides era might be free from obstacles, but already the setbacks
have started."

I have not read an article of his that is positive towards Essendon its always doom and gloom with that bloke.

edit- I hope his beloved Tigers fall in a shit heap and they sack Hardwick farkn cock.

Pardon the intrusion fellas - felt strongly enough to agree with this post.
That 'post peptides era' remark was pathetic from Jon and he should be ashamed. Whatever a persons views on 'that' situation may be, I find the use of the word era simply laughable from a so-called journalist. Talk about trying to blow everything up ten fold...
eg: I had a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast this morning - if I don't have them again I won't be talking about the cornflakes for breakfast era o_O

Anyhow, best of luck to Tom in his rehab and hopefully Jon gets his rightfully deserved kick up the backside for that rubbishy line.

This article is actually laughable....categorically states that TBC is the most important player on our list (err....no), states we are counting on him to solve all our forward and ruck problems (is neither our best ruckman or forward) and infers that this has seriously derailed our season (not great but barring injury to Ryder we should be fine).

The bloke was playing Ressies at one point last year FFS.

Completely agree, but I've come to expect that sort of thing from Ralph. He's a rubbish journalist, and along with Barrett resides at the very bottom of the footy journalism barrel.

The fact he just had to get that little sly line in shows what he's all about.

Anyway, rant over.

I found this photo of Ralphy typing up the conclusion to his article. The bloke needs to let go of some of his EFC hatred before it consumes him.

I had a think about the most important player comment, scoffed and then basically agreed.

The reality is that so much of our structure is built around TBC. Much of our forward hope rest on his effectiveness and he would still have a large ruck load. He is probably the structurally most significant player at the club at the moment.

Yeah I'd agree, however Ryder CAN (he's shown he can in the past) shoulder this burden on his own.

And we're looking at a likely four or five games.

I think Ryder is now the difference between a flying start and a stutter early in the season.

Paddy can beat Goldstein one-on-one, as well as McEvoy. One won't match him around the ground, the other in the ruck contests. It's Sandilands I'm worried about.

Sandilands worries every ruckman.

Ryder is as good as there is WHEN HE IS ON.

Problem is, he does sometimes go missing.

All we can do is hope that his rumoured preseason training reports are accurate, and he launches into the season.

We'll see but my suspicion is that forward line of JD, Carlisle, Winders, Chappy and resting mids will be more effective without TBC...will lose some ruck dominance when Ryder is resting, just a question of how the two impacts balance out.

I think it'll actually be fine but even if we do miss the big fella more than I'm anticipating the idea he's our most important player is way off IMO.

Tbell is important, but only as important as we need him to be. We can work around it. Id say Ryder is much more important out of those two alone. Id add in Watson, Carlisle, Hurley & Goddard as more important off the top of my head. Assuming Ryder is fit, we can cover Tbell. We have no real replacements for some of the others.

Obviously, our risk now is Ryder going down. Not convinced at all Thurlow can handle it, need to see it before I will ever believe it.

Tbell missed 4 games last year, we won 3 and the only loss was the last game to Richmond, which for obvious reasons should be ignored.

Out of those games, Hille only played in the Richmond game.

Really don't think Ryder has shown the ability to ruck solo for a season. He burned out quickly in the second half of 2009, I think it was, and the game is now even faster and the running requirements even greater.

I expect the opposition will batter the life out of him.

You're so negative Bruno.....

We aren't asking him to do it for a season. We're asking for a month, month and a half.

And he has shown an ability to dominate some seriously talented rucks - he's just been inconsistent.
