I think they like the way he goes about with his contested footy and tackling. As others said unlikely to break into the midfield any time soon.

Way too harsh on him. He is very competitive, very tough and is a big bodied mid. He didn’t play much last year because he was injured, and he got a big head knock in his first AFL game. There’s every chance he gets a regular game for us next year. I think he’s a pretty similar player to VDB. At the least he will be great depth in case of injury to Oliver, Viney, Harmes or Brayshaw.

If he's getting regular games our midfield has serious problems.
AVB is quicker than most think and a better kick that most think.

Yeah he would be useful for 100 games at Carlton or GC to protect some kids in the midfield but his skills are miles off the top mids.
