Actually made me feel better
I agree DC.... I was sick of the crap excuses & wanted someone to really say it how it was & how supporters felt.....

"I was ashamed to go out in public" sums it up as the captain having 3 touches... So you f***en should be !!!

Now, "Don't just say..... DO "

Actually made me feel better
Me too. I thought he came as close as he could have without, in his words, "getting into what's being said inside the 4 walls of the club" to saying exactly what people wanted to hear in the Monday presser.

I'm a bit over all the press conference kremlinology that goes on here. Pressers designed for the coaches to give the media something to write without actually saying anything, and especially without saying anything rash. At the same time they're unscripted and unfortunate choices of words happen. For example:

"Structurally fine"
"Structurally there might have been problems but it's hard to tell when you've never got the ball and it's so far from the reason we lost it's not worth discussing".

The second might be closer to true, but the first isn't that far off and cuts off the line of questioning quicker. But you can bet it will go down alongside "easy fixes" in North Board Lore.

First up, I'd like to keep this thread moderately constructive. As we head towards a loss I realise it is probably wishful thinking on my part.

His numbers this season are pretty underwhelming, but it's the way he is going about it which is most concerning. He is well and truly off the boil in pretty much every aspect, but his marking in particular is a concern.

He seems incapable of protecting the drop zone, or taking a mark under pressure full stop. This is something which plenty of key forwards have had to deal with in their twilight years. Matthew Lloyd is one.

For reasons unknown he was signed to a two year deal last season, so no doubt this thread has a lot of life in it.

Please share your thoughts. Please check your emotions at the door. Comparing him to Carey or McKernan is utterly foolish.

Try to remember we're talking about a player who has battled hard for us during some pretty dark days.

It's too early to call this the beginning of the end for Petrie. I'm far more inclined to say he is down in form than simply past it.

What has been disappointing has been Drew's inability to inspire. With both the Captain and Vice Captain missing, with the team under siege from a very good Collingwood, we desperately needed someone to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and drag the whole team along with him. Petrie should be that player. But he's not. I'm not sure he has ever been that player.

A loyal and good servant? Yes. A champion and leader? No.

Cooked by his own midfield. Not his fault today.
What about every other week? Good players make it happen. Drew consistently disappoints. Love drew. Great bloke. Sensational clubman. But average footballer costing us right now.

Mission impossible today. Didn't help his cause by missing two shots where he should have kicked.

I was very much against his appointment as captain as he's not around the contest enough when things aren't going our way. Doubly so when you take his pinch ruck work out of the equation with the pot plant Currie in the team 'filling' that role.

Unfortunately he's worked hard for his kicks today.

His legs would be like lead when it came time for a shot at goal.

He should play and play deep.

Tarrant is the one to get on his bike and work up the field.

Black then gets the third best defender, which changes things dramatically.

Petrie was great last week against the Swans and he wasn't that bad today, how can you play as a forward when our skills are absolute rubbish not to mention the spare players the pies had floating back, his not done yet imo

I dont think his cooked, i think his struggling with the fact he hasnt got any other help down there, i think it was the 1st half Goldstein was up up there and Black was on the Bench, Wiits just left goldy because he knew we wernt going there and double teamed Petrie, Petrie beat Frost really eaisly but then Witts just jumped in front and spoilt Drew.

Black has proven he is not a good contested mark and therefore opponents can discount him as a big tall threat.

Goldy and Currie have shown they are no good up forward, we are really missing Tarrant, even Majak would be better at least he will draw an opponent.

Tarrant is so imporant to our forward structure even if he doesnt kick many goals.

He's a disney captain. Not suited to being the prime leader of the club. Most disappointing thing for me this season were his pathetic comments before the Essendon game where he said we wouldn't sledge them about the drugs scandal as that was off limits. What a soft cock disney leader. Can you imagine our successful team from the 90's or even the gritty workmanlike Laidley teams being too nice to sledge a club for something like that? Really uninspiring when your captain is auditioning for a role in a disney film.

Been a good servant to the club and worked hard and got the best out of himself but he's done and his loss would probably make the side stronger for the rest of the season on the basis that it would be very hard for his replacement to do much/any worse. Early in his career he was rubbish but for a period of about 4-5 years up forward he produced some very good football for our club. But this is something he's scarcely capalable of now.

Should be dropped. No room for sentiment in the world of professional sport. It's about winning. People pay money and buy memberships for that reason. We shouldn't compromise our success for the sake of playing an undeserving player for something he achieved a couple of years ago.

As I say he should be dropped but Scott won't have the balls to make the big decision.

I will come from a different angle,I reckon the three tall forwards policy could be contributing to Drew's poor form.Three talls who are not that mobile gives the opposition players a chance to double team Drew, the ball is not held in the forward line for very long making it hard.
