In Maj's defence, he had to not only beat his man, he had to beat Petrie who was trying to spoil him and Petrie's man.
Sorry, can't agree with this. We can't put our already weakened forward line in the hands of a bloke who has poor timing and poor nous at AFL level.

The game might be going past Drew a bit, but at least he has good game sense. Maj needs an experienced player around him, it's too much to ask an 8 gamer who by all accounts is having trouble consistently affecting the game to be the number one target.

Meh, does it really matter? It is not like Brad is going to wheel in the changes.

Maj wants to take the shots, Drew doesn't. The rest is irrelevant to me. His standard isn't good enough, it is as simple as that really. If you have to change things up because your options are limited then change things up. Put the onus on the midfield to run and carry more and kick more goals, go with a smaller mobile forward line and put pressure on the mids to hit targets rather than bomb it.

Drew is only part of the problem, he is an icon for players shirking responsibility by not taking the game on and not pushing themselves to create space and opportunity. The mids who fail to deliver should also be held accountable but Drew is fumbling marks he would be confident taking one handed a few years ago. His own form is just no good and it is exacerbated because the mids are not doing what they are meant to be doing.

I am not excusing the mids for their failures, they should also be judged on form. But even if the midfield form improves, Drew still has to want to take the shots, if he doesn't he will fumble marks and miss sodas from dead in front. It is unfair to punish him, his team mates and the supporters by playing him when he is out of form.

Go back to the VFL, kick some bags of 10 goals on bunnies he relishes and get some confidence, get the desire to take the shots and come back in with some form and confidence. Going through the motions didn't help LT when he couldn't kick a goal from the goal square.

He just needs more volume at an easier standard to get some confidence.

Drew only listens to the voices of those he respects in order to turn around his form and not the Velvet Sledgehammer. Just a shame that they were using voice jammer at the time. ;-)

Disagree with 95% of this thread.

Drew is battling manfully. The delivery is generally slow and haphazard. It almost like our mids pick out his man as the target.

He still took some strong grabs and was covering a lot of ground trying to make something happen.

Bit sick of him getting scapegoated.
When your dead in front, 30 out and miss there are no scapegoats.

He's got a bit of the yips. I've seen Wayne Carey and Cam Mooney miss sitters too.

The bloke still hits contests with everything he's got and gives his all. I'd love to see the forward line without the 197cm workhorse down there. GC would've won by 60.

I probably agree with this inasmuch as if we'd played better and had more opportunities to score then Drew's miss wouldn't have stood out so much.

But given when it happened, where it happened and what was riding on it it was such a crucial miss. And senior players have to set the example. He didn't just miss either, he sprayed it.

No arguing with the fact he's shanking them but I just don't agree with calls to hang him out to dry in the VFL.

I just .... I don't want to see the ball pass between a key forwards hands..... Just... No...... Please.

Drew and Maj both guilty.
Exactly!

Majak can be a weapon if we can get it in to him quickly. He’s so athletic that if he has better game awareness he’ll never get out marked. Small blokes can rove to a big bloke you can rely on to bring the ball down. Unfortunately at the moment who knows where the ball will end up when it's going to Majak!

I might be stating the obvious, but let me state the obvious.

The Scott game plan is to bomb the ball long to Drew. It ACTUALLY IS to whenever in doubt bomb it long to the hotspot for Drew or anther tall to mark or at least create a contest. Brad will happily take Drew drawing 2 or 3 defenders to a marking contest, leaving us with the numbers advantage crumbing the pack.

Unfortunately, our crumbers are rubbish. LT is not a crumbing forward, we have 3 bigs in Drew, Maj & Black, plus a couple of rotating midfielders.

Those resting midfielders instead need to be pacy crumbing small forwards, that do a little bit of midfield time.

That is, if brad is going to persist with this game plan.

Thought Petrie played a reasonable game, competed well despite poor delivery and being outnumbered at the contest more often than not. The missed shot and dropped mark on the lead in the 3rd qtr were frustrating to watch. But it's not like we have a production line of key forwards in the VFL ready to go.

So much of this post rings true especially "he is an icon for players shirking responsibility by not taking the game on and not pushing themselves to create space and opportunity".

The other issue Drew has had for a while is when he does take a mark he stops and allows the opposition time to flood our forward line instead of moving the ball quickly to someone one out.

It's not about hanging him out to dry, we want him playing well.

Drew is woefully out of form and confidence, a spell in the VFL would be to allow him to regain form and confidence.

Spot on. Drew drawing multiple opponents is considered a positive. But it only works if other players capitalise.

By design or poor performance none of our smalls feel like hitting the foot of the packs.

Our main forward is averaging a goal a game 7 games into the season.
In his defense the new defensive less free flowing gameplab clearly doesnt suit him.

I do Agree that Hansen should have been sent forward this game to change this up.... can send Drew to defense...
Hansen is in career best form in defense but we needed to role the dice.... but FFS where were the crumbers!!
LT was chasing kicks on the wing, patch was doing zero and nahas was playing at another ground. Brilliant.

He is listed as the captain, but he isn't THE captain.

He doesn't stand up when required, bar the extremely rare occurrence.

...who is? Who is our on field captain? It isn't JZ at the moment. It's not Petrie.

Is it.. Two Dogs?
I'll tell you what, when Mullett kicked his long goal in the last Luke was going off his tree, double fist pumping, yelling and screaming trying to get the players going.

Everyone else, head bowed down like it was a funeral procession.

yep noticed this also. Even when Greenwood kicked a goal the team should have been giving it to Gaz, let him know his man just kicked a goal on him. Gewt angry stop being soft.
