Think this thread is harsh on Petrie.

If we are going to bag him then he should get in line.

Black has been very disappointing this seasonapart from a couple of moments, Currie was dropped as he was plain awful, Maj struggles with the flight but looked dangerous at times, Taz is...well I don't know where Taz is.

Taking this into account then it would appear the problem is far more to do with the shit gameplan and our mids who too often kick poorly. It can't be a coincidence that every tall fwd we have are struggling so much.

This year

Petrie -7 games, 29 marks, 74 disposals, 1 goal assist, 13 clangers, 6.6, 13 hit outs, 13 inside 50s, 39 contested possessions
Black - 7 games, 26 marks, 71 disposals, 2 goal assists, 7 clangers, 8.7, 0 hitouts, 15 inside 50s, 39 contested possessions
Daw - 2 games, 4 marks, 15 disposals, 2 goal assists, 8 clangers, 3.3, 11 hit outs, 3 inside 50s, 12 contested possessions

While none are special, I'd go with Daw and Black.

...who is? Who is our on field captain? It isn't JZ at the moment. It's not Petrie.

Is it.. Two Dogs?
I'll tell you what, when Mullett kicked his long goal in the last Luke was going off his tree, double fist pumping, yelling and screaming trying to get the players going.

Everyone else, head bowed down like it was a funeral procession.
I noticed that too.

I love Petrie, but he hasn't played well this season. Not necessarily of the opinion he should be dropped, but if he is, two good options I think we have are:

a) Nahas in for Drew. Have Daw as our main target, with him and LT working off of him.

b) Jack to full forward and Swallow into the middle. I'd favour this option personally.

Stat on On the Couch says he has won only 5 of 31 one-on-one contests this season.

He was arguably the best contested mark in the league at one point. Shame but he is well past his best.

Whole team needs a week off, head off to the water slides at the Gold Coast and come back refreshed.

That was one heap of stressed out games from the first bounce v *.

Pick the game that ended up being easy.

None.

Drew will come good.

How about another " dress up like a clown " and play golf day, seemed to work well for team bonding last year

It's a conundrum, but if you sent him to the two's he'd play on a 6 foot 1 Ayden Kennedy type and kick 10 without blinking an eye. What would that do really? I say better to keep him in because he creates good contests, but I'm more worried about Black (and to a lesser extent Daw because of a smaller sample size) and that is their ability to lead up at the ball carrier. They are both very mobile and quick and need to use that attribute. How many times do we see our players kick it to Adams, or Harvey on the lead while our forwards sit in a tight group deep forward-separate and isolate you mobile talls and let Drew do the Gorilla work deep!

Drew provides good contest but the guy is a mobile forward... he is not a wrestler... if he wants to be he needs to add 5-6 kg... he gets moved out of the way easily....this year he had almost lost his leap completely... also there is no use for a contest if no one is roving....

We don't have the cattle to replace him unfortunately. Works hard but ffs he needs to take marks/kick goals.
He doesnt work hard, a lot of the time he spent holding the opposition back and expecting someone else to get the ball, when the runner came out after one such incident Drew wasnt to pleased. He needs to miss a few games and not let him think he is just a walk up start each week. Hansen and Majak covered more ground in one quarter than Drew did the whole of the match. He hasnt played a captains game the whole time he has had the job, you never see him doing the things a captain does. I like Drew but he gives us 2 or 3 really good games a season and so far this year they have not happened.

Unless you call being a captain letting your man get away and directing other players to leave their man and pick his up :stern look:

That's an interesting observation.

Can only appreciate workrate from watching live rather than TV, so if Drew is in fact not working hard enough to find space and present then he needs a rocket.

I don't think our fwd issues are entirely the players fault more our new (again) structure, but there is no excuse if players (especially senior players) are not putting in.

It's an interesting, but incorrect, observation. Drew works very hard - he does a stack of running. The stat about Hansen and Majak covering more ground in a quarter has been pulled right out of the clacker.

Drew's problem at the moment is not work rate, it's not holding marks and not converting. Two outta three ain't good.

Fair enough, I have never heard of Drew not working hard before so it sounds like a misguided observation.

Agree that no doubt Drew has not been at his best. However I also think though that people underestimate the value to his other fwds with him getting the no 1 defender every week.

All the forwards are doing in the new gameplan is chasing tail the whole game. Should be playing man on man and not allowing a loose man in defence. Guarantee output would increase from Drew, LT, Black and Daw when they aren't playing keepy off between 2 opposition players.

I have a feeling that Petrie's form will turn around when Tarrant is back or we bite the bullet and play Hansen as the third tall. He gets no support whatsoever from Currie or Daw. Understandably the opposition puts no time into them. I'm not even sure that Daw could mark it if he was just left to roam free. We had plenty of opportunities to win that game on Sunday. Has bugger all to do with the balance between defence and attack. The problem was we squandered most of them on Daw.

I wonder whether if it would be worthwhile swapping Hansen and Petrie in periods of games where required. eg) Gold Coast.

there's no doubt Hansen is a great mark, and while he has his confidence up, I think it may be prudent to send him forward when required.
