Omg he got caught because he left his wallet with the cocaine in it in the bathroom of the casino . Thats actually pretty funny (though not to him I imagine).
Heraldsun also reporting that we withdrew a 3-year offer at 350k per year and replaced it with a 1-year deal when we found out about the situation. I imagine we will be pretty quick to extend him though if he does well over preseason and cracks the team early.

Yep. He'll figure it out pretty quick seeing the professionalism & training standards set by Walsh, Cripps & co. Not to mention his younger bro. Regardless of this however, it's obviously his circle of mates outside of footy that he needs to think long and hard about...

Had heard a stir that he may already have been taken under Walsh's wing much like Ollie has neen at times the past year.
He was mentored footy wise by Anderson last year (in part) which helped get him into their future leaders group so the continuation will be there footy wise.

I don't understand how we can change the terms of the deal in such a significant way after the trade has gone through.
I'm not sure I'm a big fan of this move when we already knew about the issue before the trade occurred. Doesn't seem right to me.

It was before the trade went through. The 3-year deal was on the table, and we replaced it with a 1-year after finding out about the charges.
Probably why the trade was on then off then on again. Elijah happy to come and GoldCoast happy to trade him based on what both parties initially believed they would receive. We obviously recalibrated our offer based on the facts, leading them to reconsider whether the move was still worthwhile. After consideration they probably figured it was still the best outcome for all parties hence the result.
I personally would have been happy to stick with a 3-year deal even given the circumstances but the added motivation of his deal ending at the end of 2024 might not hurt.

i'd imagine the personal terms weren't signed yet, remember he apparently told the club of this during the season, well before trade period.
I suspect we will extend him pretty early if he has a good preseason and looks like being best 22.

Elijah is happy to come to Carlton, has owned the situation since it happened, and acknowledges that he has to work hard to get his. He won't hold it against the club. Both parties will end up doing right by one another.

I doubt they do. If we sign him early his value won't have the chance to rise much, and he'll probably be happy to grab the security. I doubt him or his management feel hard done by in the situation. As talented as he is he finished the year in the VFL, already had questions around his professionalism and then has a drug charge hanging over his head. He'd be naive to think that wouldn't affect a contract offer. If anything, he will feel indebted to us for facilitating the move anyway and bringing him back to Victoria with his brother. If he thinks we have screwed him over I doubt he agrees to the trade.

It's odd though as the Club said when the story broke that Hollands had informed them of the incident months back (clearly, they'd been talking for some time).....
So they knew about it seemingly before they offered 3 years?!!

I don't think the timeline was like that. According to the Hun "A rising AFL star and recent Carlton recruit has admitted to possessing cocaine, found in his wallet in the bathroom of a Queensland casino, just a month before signing with the high-profile club".
So the offer for the 3 years, before the wallet fiasco. Told the club. Offer changed to one year in the month leading up to the trade.
