Jeez EJ, not a great idea to lose your wallet in the toilets with a gram of coke in it 😂
Explains the charge thou, that’s a “whoops” of the highest order.
Like it, dumb mistake- nothing sinister or character questioning (being a dick to cops etc) just a good ol fashion balls up 😂
I’m no psychologist but subconsciously wanted to get caught? otherwise a Whoops moment pretty much covers it. Fingers crossed he can work it out. Structure, self discipline and a vigorous support network can usually do the job.

Elijah is happy to come to Carlton, has owned the situation since it happened, and acknowledges that he has to work hard to get his. He won't hold it against the club. Both parties will end up doing right by one another.

I doubt they do. If we sign him early his value won't have the chance to rise much, and he'll probably be happy to grab the security. I doubt him or his management feel hard done by in the situation. As talented as he is he finished the year in the VFL, already had questions around his professionalism and then has a drug charge hanging over his head. He'd be naive to think that wouldn't affect a contract offer. If anything, he will feel indebted to us for facilitating the move anyway and bringing him back to Victoria with his brother. If he thinks we have screwed him over I doubt he agrees to the trade.
I love Carlton and I understand the advantageous position we’ve found ourselves in with Elijah - I.e. we can hedge our bets on him now.

However, if he has a huge pre season and is earmarked to play round one, his management could easily advise him to hold off on re-signing and push for a salary appropriate to his status in the side.

I’m not entirely on the side of wanting him to take advantage of the situation, but I’d hope for his sake he tries to get a little bit back financially for himself

Gold Coast is paying part of his contract! Don't think I'd heard that before.

That would make sense and is something I had wondered about.

He is owed 450k for 2024. When we initially made the 3 year offer for 350k per year the intent would have been to smooth that money out. However, after switching it to a 1 year deal we would be left with the lot. I imagine goldcoast is chipping in 100k while we pay the 350 we initially agreed to but just for one year.

From HS, the GCFC contributing a small part to a 2024 salary of $300K or less…

Though when traded, the previous contract is voided & you start again, just depends what is agreed upon to be honoured or re-negotiated.

A haircut is not the be and end all but he is one guy I'd love to see show up day 1 of preseason with a shaved head and mo. Show he means business.
Yeah, nah. As an over sixty bloke with very fine and a little patchy in top I refute that assertion. There is a place for individuality across all walks of life.

It is so annoying every couple of months when I have to cut the grey fluffy nest rather than grow out any semblance of my once coveted dark wavy mullet (none of this modern shaved contouring either)

Be yourself Elijah (without those artificial, over rated stimulants)

He is a bit stiff that the person finding the wallet didn't keep the coke before handing it in.
He should've just denied it was his and that someone slipped it in his wallet to set him up.

Todd McKenney (Dances With The Stars fame) went with that excuse when he was found unconscious in a park after a big night out.

Cops later dropped charges against him even though he had gear in his pocket when the cops found him.

Agreed.

We need to give him the space to express himself on and off the field in healthy ways.

I'd prefer what he's done which is to be honest and own his mistake.

Where is that coming from?

Where is that coming from?
From the Age article:

"Gold Coast, too, was entirely transparent about Hollands’ legal situation, agreeing to pay a small share of Hollands’ contract as part of the deal that sent him, pick 28 and a future fourth-round selection to the Blues for pick 26 and a future third-round pick."

Saw that the other day but wondering where the amounts quoted above came from which are not in the article Bletch.

I don't think the timeline was like that. According to the Hun "A rising AFL star and recent Carlton recruit has admitted to possessing cocaine, found in his wallet in the bathroom of a Queensland casino, just a month before signing with the high-profile club".

So the offer for the 3 years, before the wallet fiasco. Told the club. Offer changed to one year in the month leading up to the trade.

Wonder what the hold-up is here on handing down the AFL's penalty? Thought club, player and the AFL would want to get this one closed off quickly now the court case is done.
