Lij has been delisted and is now a DFA. His contract has been paid out and if he picks up a rookie contract with the club if he's invited to train on, he gets paid for a rookie contract next year.

This is ****ed.

We don't know what the payout they agreed to was. For all we know they could have said we'll give u a pre season train on spot if we only have to pay you out half + the rookie contract next year if u battle your way back onto the list.

Don't think it's anything worth kicking up a stink about when we don't know the numbers.

How do you know his contract has been paid out.

THE CARLTON Football Club can today confirm a further three changes to its AFL playing list.
Jaxon Binns will depart IKON Park, while Will White and Elijah Hollands will be considered for pre-season train-on opportunities following the conclusion of the draft in November.

“While we are not currently able to guarantee Elijah and Will a list spot for 2026, we will consider them both for train-on opportunities during the pre-season once the draft in November is completed.”

That's given me some hope. Binns just out but will and lij potentially to be given train on opportunity. Could give the club a few months to see how much lij wants it, whilst really emphasising it's his final chance.

The money is irrelevant. We have space in the cap for it or we wouldn't have delisted. If it gets him to get his arse into gear, a rookie list contract will be worthless in comparison.

Maybe he’s on $400.000 we say accept 200 as you accept responsibility for you delisting and loss of trust.
We will contemplate a 200 rookie wage if you tear it up preseason if you’re legitimately serious about your future behavior back yourself.
It’s a way for him to claim ownership for his actions and we get a hedge

I may be misinterpreting this scenario but I think it is a well thought out approach.
Elijah obviously wants to stay but the club needed to stand firm on the breach of trust.
The challenges for Elijah manifested themselves last off season so the club rather than wash their hands of him have given him this offseason the opportunity to prove himself.
It means also that if he trains the summer with the team he stays connected and learns the new structure and plans of the new coaching team.
We may not need to pay him out if he puts it all together and we get a guy who obviously has mates at the club who want him there and support him and we get a player who knows how to play our system.

All round it is a great opportunity for him and the club to move forward!

It may not work out but it’s what a caring mature club does and for everyone involved I hope it is a shining success.

I don't mind giving him one last chance like this...

Clearly no one wanted him so now, the onus is on him to save his career. He's just too good to not be playing AFL and only 23 years old...

If he gets himself right... we have another gun player on our list.

My biggest fear with him, that it even got to this point... to where the club are willing to pay him out to get rid of him. That is a clear breakdown in trust so it suggests he has committed multiple indiscretions behind the scenes during his time at Carlton.

I also get the feeling that while some players have bandied together to give him one last go... there might still be some that are not so keen on that.

While its clear nobody wanted to offer him a list spot, Im almost certain other clubs would offer him train on opportunitties.

Will be interesting if any do and what he does. Or if he trains with us, does well and another club offers him a list spot before we are willing to committ.

In the Age interview with Peter Ryan a few weeks ago it was stated that "he [Elijah] hopes he will be at Carlton because he wants to repay the faith and the support he received to get his life on track".
