Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

You do pedal some peculiar notions King. I find it strange how one can develop a completely irrational dislike towards a particular player (naturally I'm assuming he didn't bang your nearest and dearest as it would then be a perfectly rational to dislike the player). Blakey and McCartin simply aren't in Reid's league, but let's hope one day they get that far.
What league do you think Reid is in?
He is C grade imo.
So I guess you must think Blakey and McCartin are d grade.

Reid is a joke and our club is the punchline for letting this bloke play 126 games for us.
Yep.
Getting seduced by Tippett was one thing.
An understandable mistake.
But doubling down and falling for Reid was a mistake we never needed to make.

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice. Shame on me.

You're throwing out bait everywhere at the moment.

tippett had a better career

he didnt get to play a minimal role in a flag side i guess but did more as a player

Please don’t speak against Reid’s role in the 2012 flag. He won us that flag with the sweat off his own back. He was so instrumental the AFL even had a meeting after that grand final where they considered re-naming the Norm Smith Medal in Sam Reid’s honour.

You watching the same guy, last ill say on it because its just bashing him, but i have seen him miss from the goal square ffs and go games barely touching it.

The guys gets credit for a few moments and people ignore the games where he may as well not show up

He is a good mark when on, but often mis reads the ball

He just has never been that good, glimpses of what he could be sure, but either hurt or missing, its annoying

3 years ago i said this and its still true

Butterfingers Reid

So many glimpses of what he could be, but he has never made it and unlikely will.

Still, Sydney has a considerable long term investment in him and must be hoping for a return if they wait another 5 years or so

You're throwing out bait everywhere at the moment.

Is that what you call it?
With nearly 100K of baiting, repetitive posts, the ignore button simply wipes out 90% of the threads that basically abuse our club or belittle players.
I'm thinking that this type of posting is encouraged by the moderators because it invites people like me to waste my time responding.

Have a read through the threads of the last few days RW.

Our Swans board has become the Ducks Nuts of big footy.
Yeah.............go our team.........except for any player who hasn't played yet who looks good in the NEAFL.....................oh & Buddy.:thumbsu:

He was a far superior mark at 19 than he is right now. Somethings not right.

He can still take a superb mark but it is the consistency that lacks. In defence he seems much better at taking a grab than when he is up forward.
We have recruited & retained him and given him good coin to perform as a forward though , haven't we?

Yeah Reid dropped too many marks.
He's in poor form along with a dozen other players who miss handballs or don't take first choice of a handball option which they train for.

He is doing some rucking so that is an important role while Sinclair rests. Sinclair is another out of form player. It's a long list so it's not ideal but teams have bad form players & we are not alone judging by the inconsistency of results. West Coast at home goes down to Port. GWS beat Geelong at home last week & then get beaten by Freo at home after the media grabbed hold of & climbed aboard their bandwagon during the week.

None of our players "are that good" because we have Buddy taking the "good" part of our cap. All teams have made poor list management signings not just us, but again I repeat, is the decision to give one player an increasing salary (15% of our total cap) when his output would decrease in his latter years a correct decision? Who knows, I'm not prepared to answer that until all is done with his career.
But that goes for all our players on our list. We need 40 odd, 16 will play regular seniors, 10 will be in & out either developing their game (Dawson) or just not going to make it (Rose) & are there to be backup which is a necessity , so it's premature to write them off until it's done.

So by all means if you throw enough darts on here you'll hit a target eventually.
Throwing darts is a popular game on here.

I do not subscribe to that theory.

Buddy took unders in the first years of his contract.

We jettisoned $1.2M+ off the salary bill by dumping the overpaid and underperforming Hanners and Grohan.

At the end 2019 we will jettison salaries for Jack, McVeigh, Reg and Smith - who knows - prolly worth anywhere between $1.6M - $2.4M. We will finally be rid of the dead weight of Tippett.

I expect we will not get more than 30 games from the four.

As much as I love Buddy, the salary he is on right now & going forward has harmed & will harm the club's chances of retaining & attracting players.
We went all out, played in two GFs & lost.
This from an "anonymous & unnamed source".
Too much beating around the bush on here.

People want reasons for why we are now struggling.
we've been forced to quickly feed in young talent because they don't cost as much in their early years, in order to subsidise Buddy's contract.
That's an unpopular view on here because he is our best player & it's easier to throw darts at other players.

I love that we were bold enough to get Buddy but we can't cry now. We played in two GFs, call it a fail by all means & we have hit 60,000 members.
That's a win off field by signing him & depending on how you want to look at it, a win on field.

Sam Reid is Sam Reid. Exactly how much he is on with this contract is unknown but by all means speculate & dance around the elephant in the room.
Buddy taking 12-15% of our total salary cap in these next few years while his output decreases, is & will be the biggest problem for our club. We all discussed it early when he was signed & thought we'll worry about that when the time comes.
Well the time's come & we don't like it.
What I watched the other night was a highly paid gun delivering, but with no companions with enough skill to carry out ANY game plan. We went through the corridor many times & were just turned over & punished. That's the new style of AFL. Run & gun through the middle. It's a lucky dip. If a team can hit their targets all the way to the forward line & better still, kick a goal, then the wheel gets spun again with the 6 6 6 lottery. Win that first contest, hit your targets all the way to the forward line & goal. back to the middle.

We suck at it because we haven't got the skill to hit targets. We've got the old Corollas while the Rolls Royce is parked up in the goal square, leaving us with not enough money to service & maintain the Corollas. Last year was worse because the Rolls Royce was waiting 22 weeks for a spare part to come so he could have his groin repaired.

Day off today folks so hence the bullshit coming from my keyboard.
What's your excuses?

That's a really pathetic thing to say imo. You have just lowered yourself not worth the effort.
