Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

Can almost bet tomorrow night that T Harley brings up how good this guy could be at CHB , I know Bonz still thinks he should be played there and some what agree with him.
Sometimes he looks far more composed and more natural down back but looks like the last few weeks his confidence is up as a forward

oh well, just an argument, but like ROK, LRT might leave because he cant crack a senior spot at the moment
Ummm... No. Just... um, no.

And even if so, good on him. Club champion. Absolute superstar as far as I'm concerned and unbelievable player for us for many many years. He owes us absolutely nothing for his years of dedication and service. He could go join Eddies mob and while annoyed they got him I'd still be happy in the knowing he was a massive influence on our ultimate success for the last decade.

But then again he's not leaving, so why worry? I don't get it.

Yeah, I've got no doubt he could be a great CHB but when you consider his pack marking ability, his athleticism, and how good he is at ground level for his height it seems like such a waste to pigeon hole him down there.

Is Reid turning into the latest in the Rocca / White dynasty? The latest in a history of Big Units Who Could Be Something Special But Just Keep Letting You Down (BUWCBSSBJKLYD; it's a work in progress). I want so badly for him to do well but damn, I'm wondering if I shouldn't just save my energy. On the weekend, he took a mark and I over-celebrated for the five seconds it took him to chip a pass directly to the opposition. For every mark he takes, there's another one he should take but drops.

COME ON MAN, STOP MESSING WITH ME!

he should go and be a 2nd forward at another club. back to Melbourne closer to his family. we could get a 2nd round pick for him. swans r locked in with buddy and tippett, just the way it is.... membrey looks like a good (ROK) half forward type. so our forward structure is fine with those 3 in there.

Wait a minute. We are getting rid of a 22yo KPP who has just gonr pasr 60 games, shown he has the ability to play 1st or 2nd forward and key post in defense. Sheer madness. Once he is given a position to settle into. Be it the Goodes role or KPD that Ted has played we will see his worth.

seriously, patience.

Worst post I have seen in a long time. Top 10 draft pick and even then we would be crazy to accept.

For swans sake he should stay, for himself he should try to get to a club like carlton or WB and be there 2nd forward in the future.

I know with Tip & Buddy in the side he usually gets 3rd/4th defender but to play a 3 role utility at Reid's age + experience and expect a 15-18 possie/2-3 goal game every week is a pretty big ask imo. Can you imagine if a similar sized Ted Richards at same stage of his career was asked to do that? I don't think he would have much impact on a game either. Once Reid finds a position to settle into e.g. CHB then he'll start to blossom as a player

Spot on. Reid is doing fine and won't be going anywhere. I think someone mentioned this in another thread, but at the moment he seems to be playing a similar role in the side to LRT in 2012. Just because he isn't getting big possession numbers doesn't mean he isn't doing his job.

exactly. Just listen to horse talk about him. Reid is a required player and is doing what is asked of him each week. We don't need him to take over games everytime, just fill the many roles he fills. Perhaps when teddy and reg bow out he can settle doen back, that's where I would like to see him. Good speed, great reach, and another 5 kgs would be handy by then.

Unfortunately I missed the game yesterday. But I read that sammy only had 5 disposals. In a game we apparently dominated, what the bloody hell happened to him?
Seem's lost playing the LRT role
Need to find him a permanent role (not floating from one position to another)
Otherwise he might ask to be traded because he isnt enjoying his football

To me Sam looks neither happy nor settled.

With Tippett and Buddy playing, Sam Reid should be at CHB.

Tom Harley is absolutely correct. Sam is wasted as a third tall forward, and at times we are too tall up forward, with the ball rebounding too quickly.

He actually got injured. Not that those riding his every move would care.

He played 78% time on ground, more than Malceski and about level with Hannebery and Jetta, in a very easy victory. Why wouldn't an injured player have spent some time on the bench in a game where we could easily afford it?

Reid gets more excuses made for him by fans than anyone else

Previously he was being asked too much needed help now he is not getting with other forwards there

Then failing that he is young of course

Not saying he can't be good but why does he have a spot that cant be questioned when players like Membrey knock on the door or we lack height down back

He's fine.
He does his role & is an important second ruckman that doesn't need rotating who can also go forward or back should a tall go down during the game.

He is more valuable than some of you are giving him credit for.
