Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

Reid misses a fair few marks and goals seems rather dumb to me.

I am not suggesting White is a gun player I think both have been average to ordinary most of their career. Reid just has an inflated reputation.

Reid should of been in the NEAFL way more than he has been, the club overrate him IMO

but hey come round 10 when he has played 10 stellar games I will happily come back and eat crow, but i suspect we will see more of the same old Reid this year where he plays a good quarter against say Brisbane and kicks 3-4 goals then goes missing for 3 weeks, then probably gets hurt one week.

Wait, so you're saying you have a better understanding of Reid's value to the club than our coaches and match committee? Wow you really must be The King! :rolleyes:

FWIW I'm not trying to insinuate that Reid is the second coming of Wayne Carey, just that he is a superior player to Jesse White and a key member of our team.

To be honest I don't see Reid being an average player and still being a valuable member of the team as two mutually exclusive things.

I am saying his output has not justified his continued selection, but the AFL loves a tall player, he is not the first to be hyped up by any club.

It is an opinion, so are you saying anyone who has an opinion on here that is contrary to what seems to be the clubs view then they are claiming to be the almighty?

I think the fact that with this key member playing 0 games we made a grand final says it all.

But as I said time will tell.

Let me pose is this way if he plays every game this year matching his exact current average output for the year would that be a good result?

SUPERIOR player to white

Come off it

He would struggle to get a game at other clubs

Punts plz...he would have been a walk up starter at Collingwood last year for every game of the season, unlike White.

Nah was just taking the piss to be honest!

If he is fit all season and plays every game in the 1's I would say that's a good result because it means he is playing decent enough footy to be a regular in the best 22.

Perhaps this would have more to do with a lack of depth for his particular role. Who has been in direct competition for his spot in the side?

In his absence he was replaced by Dean Towers, Xavier Richards, Callum Sinclair at times, for a couple of games Ted Richards. Even if his output is average, he'd have to be an upgrade on these guys who would've been considered below average players in 2016.

Of the two that remain on our list I can't see either displacing him in our best 22. Sinclair is incapable of taking marks and Towers I think is more suited to a midfield role than forward.

Also you have to remember that talls take longer to develop. Reidy is only 25, and he's been heavily affected by injury. I reckon if he stays on the park we'll see some improvement from him. Furthermore, he'll be our third tall, which is an encouraging thought.

I must of missed a porchain of sams career when he was this out Standing CHF clunking big pack marks

Jumping on YouTube now
I will help you. Jess would have dropped this or have been up the ground wondering what all the fuss was about. Reid's future is in our defence.

Once a person has a pre-conceived notion about a player, no amount of stats, videos , images or other information will help dispel that.

Sam Reid suffers from the following pre-conceived notions of one or more of the following
* Large Contract
* Injury Prone
* Inconsistent
* Young
* Old
* Drops Marks
* Clunks Marks
* Goes Missing

These may not reflect reality, but it is what it is.

Apart from Punts and I Sam Reid does not suffer from any of that he is the super duper all australian worthy premiership winning centre half forward who is as young as a newborn and ready to explode, can play any position and tore the comp apart before his recent injury

This is an absurd caricteture of people who think Reid is, all things considered a decent player capable of improving our team, who are getting more and more frustrated by being treated like idiots for holding that opinion.
