Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

I think it means if Reid played in the GF, then the Bulldogs would have lost.
Hey Bruce?
I agree!

What if Reid played for hawthorn

Reid stays in a ground contest like no other forward? Whats that mean sorry?

Obvious of course.......it's when he's having a contest with the ground .......running on it, lying or kneeling on it, kicking it, hitting it after marks, hurling abuse at it occasionally. The ground is always pretty stoic about it too. I've liked that part of Reids game. Very few forwards have such even contests with the ground.

Serious note. I like him forward only. Agree, too much movement into different roles hurts his confidence and rythem. Means he has to become accustomed to a different patch of ground too.....a new contest

What it means is that once the marking contest is over, and the ball becomes contested in a ground battle, Reid continues to compete and does so very effectively. More effectively, in my opinion, than any other key forward in the competition.

Yeah!
So basically "Reid stays in a ground contest like no other forward?";)

I gotcha first time Bruce. Huge 2nd, 3rd even 4th efforts and very effective at that for a big guy. Also very quick and accurate handballs in congestion. Not many players who have so many aspects to their game.

Thanks, mate. I don't get how others can't see this in him. He's bloody immense.

Consistently Forward?
Consistently Back?
Consistently in the Ruck?

Therein lies the developmental 'delay' for mine.

Give him a job and stick him to it.
Couldn't agree more

More his lack of consistency in any one position has resulted in the lack of being placed in a consistent position...
rather than his lack of a consistent position resulting in his lack of developmental consistency

Your argument is consistent.

He's a barometer player.

When he's on, it just lifts everyone around him.

I can say as a spectator he is one of the most exciting marks of the ball we have on the list. Not quite the same thing as being the most dependable mark though - Reg prob is that.

Two rounds in the fan boys were up and about saying he showed everyone'
'

He is still the same, once a month is good

The rest is soft crap

He can go if he is offered 500k elsewhere

In fairness in think you'll find at the start of the year most people were simply saying he would be a massive improvememt on X Richards which is certainly the case.
