Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

The guy is going to be a star!

He's 19 he'll get his kicking for goal right.

Reid has the talent to be a 10 year CHF. He's just got this one easily fixable issue. The problem will go away with experience as he gets used to the pressure of AFL footy. That's why dropping him would be an awful idea. His problem will only go away with more big game experience. A Collingwood and Carlton fortnight is just the thing to help his development.

One game he's going to snap out of it, kick half a dozen, lead us to a big win, and the problem will be gone forever...hopefully it's against Carlton or especially the Pies. Can't stand my Pies fan mate gloating every time they win.

I feel his kicking will climb in conjuction with fitness and filling out.

Youre on the money as usual I feel Fu, his work rate and efforts in winning the ball leave him stuffed, have a look when he goes back for set shots he is blowing hard. Maybe play him deeper? but robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Well he's already got a better strike rate than Jetta and after he got his confidence his strike rate was up. All in all bloody happy to have him in the side as he looks a genuine CHF and can take a grab. Watched the game and it wasn't technique or anything just a confidence issue. To be expected with a 19 yo

I will never understand Bigfooty. Reid's 4 years younger than White and he gets a roast thread, while White needs "more time and patience"

The thing is, he actually is a really a good kick of the football. We saw that in his debut game last year - admittedly only one fairly easy shot on goal, but around the ground he was very good also. I just think it's in his head a bit at the moment. As long as he keeps getting the opportunities, he'll be fine.

Not much use having hands like Gary Ablett Sr as a KP forward if they are attached to the feet of Andrew Dunkley.

Early days yet though.

And to think, there are some idiots here at Bigfooty think that we have no young talent coming through. Congratulations to Sam Reid, Round 12's Rising Star Nomination. On ya Sam!

For everyone saying he just needs to work on his kicking: Do we think he doesn't already know that?

Does anyone think that he just rocking up to training this week doing sprints and marking drills? He has recognised it as a problem and quite rightly took plenty of positives out of the game, as we all should.

2 points:

- The wind was howling from all reports
- Everyone else kicked poorly too

Franklin, Riewoldt (both) have all gone through periods where accuracy has been a problem. Have no doubt, Reid will be a star. And he will do much more for us than converting goals.

Not from me. Reid's a beaut. This thread is far too harsh or maybe just not properly explained. Surely he deserves more praise than criticism.

There's a whisper on the Carlton board that Reid is keen to come home next season. Swans have been good at holding on to players, so I assume it is just wishful thinking. But it would be a shame for you guys to lose him as he looks like a genuine gun.

Anyone here heard anything about homesickness?

If that is true Carlton can go **** itself. Without Reid our forward line is going to be screwed for a very long time.

If the rumour is true, which I doubt for a minute, would it explain why we could be/are after Tom Hawkins from Geelong?

I hope we don't lose Sam Reid though, because if we snare Tom Hawkins, a Hawkins/Reid combination would look quite scarey, if Hawkins gets his act together on the field.

But man, I hope the rumours aren't true though.
