Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

The marks stat would have to be wrong considering he's only made over 8 marks once this year.

Even yesterday, in a game in which I don't think anybody could say he was particularly "involved", he had 5 marks, of which 4 were contested. 4!

Just imagine how good he'll be with a bit of meat on his bones! With a frame his size he has no excuses not to be a 100kg monster in 2 years.

He has huge shoulders. The commentators themselves have noted it several times; "have you ever seen shoulders like that before?" ... "no".

He is also super quick over his first 20m or so, which bodes well for when he corrects his timing. Kicks too flat for a forward and often not kicking through the ball. This however has improved notably in the second half of this year.

Shit, I have seen him double teamed and he does not turn 20 until end of 2011!

Has a few things to work on, but it is a nice base to have great hands, fantastic athleticism, 2nd efforts are very good, a huge frame, quick over first 20 and the list goes on. Great attitude.

Will be a superstar unless injuries arise I would have thought.

The problem is our strategy has now become "Kick it long to Reid no matter what." I think I saw him contend against 4 Richmond defenders in one marking contest yesterday.

If we can just get another semi-decent forward to stand behind him it will be so much better.

That's why if Everitt was fit I would definitely be starting him in the forward line with Reid. I thought he played quite well up there when given the opportunity. Has a pretty decent mark (compared to White anyway) and is definitely the most accurate kick at goal in the team.

Where the hell were the others back there to help or crumbers or any pressure on the Richmond defence. I was so annoyed.

He also showed in the latter stages on Sunday a desire to chase the ball. By then, obviously, he could see how bad we were playing and he'd had no service (again) so he went upfield and got involved in several scrimmages, and even looked okay trying to move in traffic with the ball, hands out in front of him looking to offload.

At least he was heckin'g trying to do something, just get involved, which so few of his more experienced teammates did.

Damian Barrett on TFS said GWS main targets to sign next year will be Pendlebury, Goddard and Goldstein, said nothing about Reid but nobody said anything about them going after Phil Davis or Callan Ward last year either.

I hope we re-sign him by the end of THIS season because I see a Scully type shitstorm on the horizon for us next year if we don't.

If we lost Reid to GWS or anyone else, I'd probably sob pathetically. He's easily our most promising young player from the past decade.

One thing I am worried about is him being in a Pavlich situation. I don't want him to be the only star in a side that consistently misses out.

I will never, ever, forgive GWS and insult WS with the most intense passion imaginable if they take Reid.

Don't say that! I'd love it if they took him!

(If there's even the slightest hint that taking Reid would fuel an intense hatred of them by the Swans they'd throw all they have at him)

Stat is right. If they somehow managed to take Reid off us, there would well and truly be hatred from Swans fans towards GWS.

I don't care how much it takes, Sydney just has to secure him long term. Give him however much he wants. Just make it happen.

Exactly. Swans should basically write him a blank cheque. After Goodes retires, he will effectively be one of our most important players to retain, and should be paid accordingly. I consider him, Goodes and Mumford our three most important players at the moment.

I don't think we should worry at all over Reid The Regal resigning. With the likes of young Mitchell confirming commitment, club BLOODS is place to be!

With Mummy The Swanheart force feeding young Mitchell fois gras style from the centre setup. Reid The Regal knows silver service is set for the SCG!:footy:
Those fibro flogs from afar will feel the might of RED and White!:diamond:
