Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

I don't think I will sleep properly until Reid's signiture is on the paper.

I hate to bring this thread back after such a great victory but what is wrong with Reid at the moment. Ever since he hurt his shoulder halfway through the Port match (i think it was the Port match) he has looked like a shadow of what he was in the first few games and its hard to believe but his goal kicking seems to be getting worse.

Our forward line is the only question mark on our entire team and if we can fix that then we are going to be a very dangerous and hard to beat team this year.

If we just assume it's not injury, he's being like quadruply teamed against quality opposition. He's 20. Give him some time. As great as he is he can't do it all himself.

We desperately need a big forward target up there with him all the time to attract attention away from him. Goodes and Everitt sometimes being there isn't enough. But with us playing so well it's hard to see Longmire tinkering with the setup.

Play White & Reid there. With Rohan going down and TDL doing some good things maybe that would be okay if the situation gets worse, however at this stage I don't want to unbalance the team set-up.

Spanker should be back soon too. Started his training last week.

EDIT: Forgot about Walsh.

Lots of potential but at this stage 5-0 doubt we will be doing anything drastic. White in is the only thing Id do.

hype or injured imo!!

Mate change your name to Whitefactor if you're hating on Reid so much. The kid is injured, 20, and holding our forward line together, cut him some slack.

When Spangher is back, I'd bring White, Spangher and Morton in and give Reid a bit of a rest.

Exactly, Reid is getting all the attention allowing our midfielders to kick all the goals. Put white in Reid's place and the opposition would pay white no respect whatsoever.

He's still getting to lots of contests. He's still providing a target. He's still clunking the odd mark when we can get the ball to him without 3 defenders hanging off him. His second efforts once the ball hits the ground as still there.

So yes, his form is a little down on where we'd like it to be but he's still providing value to the team. And if our mids can continue to contribute a dozen or so goals a week, who cares?

Him being there makes our opposition focus their best defenders on him, that makes it easier for everyone else to score.

The days of a 100 goal season for a KPF are almost extinct. A player like Reid contributed indirectly to a lot of important goals and he gets no stats for it.

He hasn't been at his best but we've been scoring enough goals to win games comfortably. That's all we need out of our forwards.

We've actually kicked the 4th highest score so far this year. So while our forward line structure does look woeful, we are still getting the score on the board. Couple that with the second best defence and we are looking ok.

Our midfield has really picked up the slack w.r.t kicking goals. They rotate through HF and the middle seamlessly and very effectively. ROK, Kennedy, Jude, McGlynn, Goodes, Jack, Hannebery, Bird are all capable of giving us goals when forward of centre.

Getting Spangher in when he's fit (I still think he's the best option to be standing next to Reid as the 2nd permanent tall) would be great if possible.

Just think he's a bit down on confidence at present.

On fire early against Freo, then injured his shoulder and was obviously hampered the next week V Port and I didn't think he fully stretched out V North.

No problems with the shoulder today, but lots of two up against and was used away from the I50 in the last qtr to open up space for Goodes.

I thought a couple of promising signs from Reid in the 3Q today, but 2 poor kicks at goal dropped his confidence again IMO.

Much happier with the way he attacked the ball today (although I remember one kamikaze pack breaker last week).

He'll be right, clunk one early next week, kick straight and back on track.

I've never understood how people can roast a bloke who sucks in 3 defenders at a time, making it so much easier for those around him, if they make hay while the sun shines?

Reid doesn't have to kick bags IF we win. He just has to be the target, and if the others can convert, who cares, really????

We beat Hawthorn FFS. A side that has shat on us for years.

It's all in the head. Once he gets one or two through, the rest should flow, ala Jetta last year. 7 goals 20 something behinds, and nearly the exact opposite ratio this year for him. I hope Reid rids of the yips soon! His work everywhere else is exceptional.

Reid was fine today.

His confidence seems down, but he took a couple on the lead today, and another that Goodes snatched out of mid-air which was aimed at Reid's chest.

Needs to spend some time practicing his kicks, but that looks like it's in his head. He'll have a good day soon, and then he'll be back to normal. Doesn't really look injured, just out of sorts.

Would benefit from a steady partner up forward. We've had LRT in and out, Goodes out for a week, White in and out, and Rohan going down. Even ROK was out/sub for a while.

If we get a steady forward partnership that learns to work together to spread the defence and take the heat off Reid, it will make a huge difference to his game.

Send to lead into a CHF role. Get into the game up the ground, grab a few in generel play and at some point he'll float a mark in range and kick it and it will be fine. He was better in the air today and he'll be back to his best soon enough.

For a guy that has played, what? 30 games?, we sure are expecting a lot.

A real lot.

30 odd games into a career and a roasting?

He is doing fine. We are kicking winning scores. He will go hot and cold as a KPP for a while yet. Still so young and physically small relatively speaking.

He will not lose us any games this year but will win us a few.

And that will do pig, that will do very nicely.
