Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

I've been reading this thread, and i'm convinced by every single argument for every player. We don't need to omit a forward. We just win contested ball, and play all 9 forwards.
Morton
Walsh
Jesse
Reid
ROK
TDL
LRT
McGlynn
Everitt

Dump Mattner, Shaw and AJ, keep a 3-man backline of Smith, Ted and Grundy. As long as we win in the middle, we don't need them anyway. This 6-man backline thing is so 2011. Cut away the dead wood, it's just holding us back!

DAMN THE TORPEDOES! Full speed ahead!:thumbsu:

This is from out of left field as well, what if sam reid had a spell in the ruck, enabling him to get a touch and to take some pressure of himself.. goodes did it early on, reid has a great vertical leap.. he couldnt do any worse, try something different..

now unload boys!!

It all makes sense now.

You're Robert Walls.

I don't know about Morton. He's improving but there are still those ahead of him. Gordon absolutely smashed it on the weekend and TDL is way ahead.

Took Buddy a couple of years

Go Into the ruck with a shoulder problem?????

Really???

We have Seaby, Pyke, White, LRT and we regain Mumford as well...

No point on putting him in the ruck... I say if he really needs to regain touch play him on the flank and make him lead up the ground...

So he has a shoulder problem and also a knee problem, wtf has horse been playing him for this early in the season, not like it was finals.

very desperate imo, these injuries explain his drop off... horse makes some odd decisions at times. rest him for a month i say, its not worth it atm.

Walls was forever suggesting putting Hall in the ruck if he had a quiet quarter. It was his best idea since getting the team to punch the crap out of a teammate.

Didn't Carlton do that at training? Seriously, Reid is not injured, not a knee anyway, he's had his first run at Tues training since the Freo game apparently, and came away fine. The radio report was about 5 weeks late

You got to take into account how the opposition now play him, they are cutting off his run and jump at the ball, as they know he will kill them in the air, so they are taking this aspect away from him, something he will develop and work around.
My thought, play a regular lead up forward be it Jesse, Walsh or who ever and allow Sam to roam further up, he is super quick, fantastic below the knees for a tall so he will be a great asset further up the ground, particularly MCG, a great CHF target, this will cut out this opposition tactic, once he gets his hands on the ball again it will all flow back.
We need to be patient, he's barely played 30 games, and certainly wouldn't drop, just change his role within the team for a few weeks.

Agree, he got all the kudos because he was a surprise but opposition are now quick to work it out.
Saying that he has the tools and with hard work he will be unstoppable.

I note Longmire confirmed that a sore shoulder was affecting Reid:

“He just had a sore ankle and a sore shoulder and a couple of little niggles that happen when you play centre-half-forward and you’re 20 years of age,” he said."
