Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

He's going well. Don't want to go nuts with power, but I think we can remove the 'Roast' tag from the thread title!

He's doing well, he's not dominating but he is learning a new role. I think he will be awesome as mobile big man, his confidence is coming back, he is holding his marks and goal kicking has improved.he is a very hard match up for anyone.

Key component in the team at the moment

In my opinion he will be a very important player come finals, Because Buddy & Tippo will obviously get the 2 best defenders during the finals & may get well held so it will be important for him to go forward & sneak a goal or two.

Reid is also now a dead eye dick in front of goals. I am not sure what the Swans have done with him but since 2013 his goal kicking has been a lot more reliable. He is really dangerous when up forward (especially with Tippett and Buddy both there as well) and he is definitely handy in defence as well.

Probably Franklin's tutelage.

Sam Reid has been much improved in the past few weeks, great to see. I still don't want to see him wasted in the ruck except in desperate circumstances

Loving the way he's progressing. Maybe not taking the same path that we expected, but he's a gun and it's showing.

Still just 22. Wow.

The 22 bit is the important bit

Got a decade ahead of him

Do you know what usually follows once he starts to string good games together? im not even going to mention the word..

To be honest I reckon his body is responding well to the extra work and probably needed it rather than playing cold target all the time. I am happy to say I was wrong about him.

Anyway it is a contact sport, c'est la vie and all that.

It also looks to me like he is enjoying tossing himself around. He sure is a willing worker and quite the athlete.

He's really filling out, just hope his shoulders stay the course.

Very, very handy to have his (and Parker's) ruck work when required and have noticed him playing the loose man at the back towards the end of quarters. His defensive marking has always caught the eye (see Freo) but his spoiling is just as good.

Just another flexible, multi positional gun, the type that Longmire loves!

There's a few on this board who enjoy tossing themselves around.

Great to see he's finally beginning to live up to expectations. Being around buddy and Goodes in the fwd line should have a good influence too.

Will become the 2nd best mark in the AFL behind Howe, maybe already is.

just an opinion, but if Frawley was at the swans he would enjoy finals and an improved role, aswell as mentoring sam reid for that back role who can ocaisonally push up to the forward line, i reckon it would be great myself!:):):)

What could Frawley teach Reid that Grundy, Richard or LRT couldn't be teaching him already?

How to be greedy? We got Buddy to cover that
How it is to play in a shitty team? We got Derickx to cover that

Frawley could be learning off Reid by next year:drunk:
teddy doesn't push forward, nor does reg, and LRT can't keep a spot:(
