’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

TO his credit he stood up yesterday when many of the same GF shirkers went into their shells. Proof that it only takes a good handful to say 'enough is enough' and the whole team can start to turn it around. Was there any position that Sam didn't play ? 94% game time suggests Horse was interchanging Reid for one of his triplets.

I personally wouldn't want to rely on him as your go to ff, but if a club has no other viable tall option.

The blues would surely have a crack. Richmond could do worse than to leave Ty out and bring Reid in.

Petrie is aging at north but maybe wouldn't have the coin

Haha. Kevin Bartlett is a good example of a completely reactionary AFL press, the majority of whom don't watch close to every game each week. If he did that, he wouldn't have said that. I think it's for that reason that he did say that in the sense that he hasn't seen or heard anything second hand about Sam Reid for ages (because he hasn't been doing anything of note), so when he hears that Reid turned the game on the weekend, he assumes that Reid has been planing along on the same upward trajectory as 2 or 3 years ago. So his Freo game, in Bartlett's mind, is the next step up, when really it is the outlier.

And I like Reid and have always wanted him to stay in the side, this is more about how myopic the media personalities can be.

I like him on the wing thou, we are at our worst when we bomb long to buddy/tippo 2 on 1. with reid on wing i always back him in contested mark 1v1. seemed a better option to stop the 60m give away possession kick.

Won't expect that every week , but I'd expect him to work his way towards putting that sort of performance in on a consistent basis.
