Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

Reid is underated. He is still young in terms of a KPP forward and as previously mentioned has been shuffled down the order to 4th in line after Goodes. This year will see Tippo in hte ruck more, Franklin further up the field leaving Reid as the target. we'll really find out about him as this unfolds but experience will help him, I'm not sure how old he is, but he still has some filling out to do body wise, when that happens...................

I still maintain Reid is a spud. Did a few good things last year, but he is a lot like Westoff - a star on the traing track but no good in a game.

Well that really surprises me. 6 ft 5 +, great leap, good athleticism, they usually are unstoppable at training.

More of a 'when they're on, they're on' type.

If he does a preseason uninjured, that is a success.

Westhoff had a quiet 2015 and was ahead of Reid in pretty much every area. I don't understand the comparison.

Maybe Jesse White is a better comparison, but he averaged more goals last year than Reid ever has in his career, so that is also a bit awkward.

16.33

But consider

2010 - 1 game (debut came in the last game of his first season on the list)
2011 - 23 games (late withdrawal with "soreness" in Rd24, played the first final the next week)
2012 - 22 games (missed Rd 19 & 20 with a knee injury and held out of Rd23 with a "glute", played the first final the next week)
2013 - 10 games (missed 4 games with a quad injury come back and re-injured the same quad and missed the rest of the season only long term injury to date)
2014 - 20 games (missed Rd 3,4 & 5 with an Achilles injury, was named as the Emergency in Round 6 and was a late withdrawal in Rd 22 with a hip, played the next week)
2015 - 22 games (was a late withdrawal in Round 5 with a "calf" played the next week and missed the Semi Final due to a Hamstring)

So I wouldn't say he is as injury prone as he is made out to be. 2013 was the worst year due to his quad, but other than that we have got at least 20 games a year out of him except for his first year when he didn't debut until the last round

Good points.

Not so awkward about the goals when Reid wasn't playing as a forward.
He did some good things last year(and a lot more of nothing) starting with the freo game but I think he will be more than serviceable this year if he has some consistency.

White spent more time as the 2nd tall than Reid did.

Be interesting to see stats of when Reid was the 2nd tall or main tall compared to White

I said of any year Reid has ever played, including the ones where he was a full time forward.

Sorry, read wrong

Would rather Reid over White anyway. Better on the wing and in defense if need be

Don't say that around here , white is shit remember so we can't compare the 2

Have fun with Henderson!

Reid stood up and was having a blinder before injured in the Fremantle final without Buddy in the side.
He is our only genuine mobile high flying forward . (Tippett is more of a strength mark).
Goode's going will improve his presence.
He is one of our secret weapons who can play a number of roles.
He is a hard match up
His injury problems are a beat up.
Clearly I am a fan. Love his marking and his mobilty.

Huge huge fan of Reid but his injury problems are genuine, very frustrating to watch as a supporter.
