Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

Yeah there is

He is tall and promising
Has barely been missed lets face it, doesnt even average a goal a game, barely gets a touch, just looks ok
Reid has definitely been missed, particularly against teams with good defensive pressure who lock the ball in our defensive 50. We've resorted to kicking long to Sinclair who drops them, or Heeney who isn't the build to be taking repeated pack marks in our defensive half. Reid would be a huge asset to provide that outlet!

Ok, agree to disagree as this is not the Reid thread and he is not playing.

But he does not touch the ball so i fail to see this outlet he provides thats all, he barely gets involved. As Punts said towers does more and his career numbers are now past Reids

Reid is so overrated on here

If he played for another club people would say he is a spud I bet
I think it's more a case of some people thinking he's a total spud, when in reality he's a reasonable footy player.

He's not elite, not going to make the AA side, but *if* he was fit he'd be a huge asset for his versatility and ability to mark the ball. Tippett is the only other tall we have who is a strong contested mark, which means we're too predictable.

Reid just needs another 3-5 years to develop his game...He could be a gun after that

Reid had really turned a corner prior to his injury last year. I think he is a vital cog to a very dominant Sydney, however I have to concede that time is probably out and after such a long lay off those pressure acts may not be there anymore. Hope that he can get up and going this year and still be a selection option.

Yeah old jokes aside we really just need him to get fit.

Reid isnt good enough to be best 22
Thought this was an injury thread not a troll thread?

People come here looking for updates on injured players but instead just get people bashing injured players...

The Reid debate has been done to death.

Fair point as i conceded already, but its not bashing just an opinion on where he fits, and if he would fit post i jury thats all

Thinking a player is not best 22 is not bashing

Otherwise excluding a player to include reid is bashing surely

Which games? Serious question

Here are Reids games last year, excluded the 9 touch round 1 effort due to screen size sorry

When is the corner he turned? Gold coast and stkilda?

Pretty ordinary all round

Maybe he can be a good player one day, but he is not vitally missed nor good enough to come straight back in or make a massive difference this late into a year

You're entitled to think that way, just seemed a bit off in an injury thread (not just you) but it's moved so all g ;)

If he were fit this week he would come straight back in for XR.

I agree and i am sorry about that

Reid is a gun. An injury prone gun but a gun. His injury was the one that killed us in the finals last year.

If he was playing XR's role we'd be flag favourites for sure. Those bagging him have no idea of the importance of hits to advantage and role playing in a team environment.

Dunno about that personally
But not like we have seen his form either way

If all were fit id bring laidler and tippett in for nankervis and xr

A gun who plays a team role with hits to advantage?

Define gun though?

The last few games were pretty solid with a run of games with 80+ ranking points, so I think the last impression he left on a lot of us was fairly positive.

Funnily enough his best game last year I thought was against Freo when he played on the ball.
