Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

I think Jesse White played far better in his final season with us! I know Reid has had 12 months off but he’s not impacting at all.

Very true but he is on our list & needs to get his confidence back in order for the team to start winning.
Jesse White is done, Reid still has a few years left.

How much cheaper?
Show us all the figures.

Why don’t you research for yourself and prove me wrong

You have Buddy’s salary and Mitchell’s salary history on file just check there

He is on our list Ted and as far as I’m concerned, anyone on that list has the right to play NEAFL if they don’t have the confidence in playing in the AFL.

Tippett still had a couple of years left too...he’s still on our list!

Very true Mick. If not in form back to the NEAFL is exactly how I feel too. Who comes in without dropping in experience even further?

I don't have to prove you wrong. There is no evidence for how much Reid signed on for. We've all seen Buddy's pay scale & once Barry Mitchell wasn't an employee of our club, ala Scully's dad, Tom was off.
You don't need figures for that but use the same calculator you used for Reid's remuneration.

Blakey is the obvious ‘like for like’ choice but matchups and structure dictate that decision. It could even be a Melican?

It’s tough

Who can replace the 0 impact Reid is having

Perhaps a raffle for the fans to play a game and donate the funds to charity

He had 16 disposals, 5 Marks, 1.1 and 5 score involvements as well as 7 hitouts. Above his career averages certainly for disposals.

Not enough impact for sure, but 0 is just ridiculous and off the mark.

I like Blakey as an in but it unfortunately doesn't help with our lack of experience should Reid go out.
The pinch hitting in the ruck is an important part of the game that Reid contributes to.
He needs to hold his marks & likewise Sinclair & others need to improve their decision making & execution.
There comes a tipping point as to how many go out & how many come in, total games played by the team etc.
I am more than happy to watch us lose while putting games into these guys while more senior players find form in the twos but many on here won't be happy, judging by reading tbrough any game day thread over the years of relative success. They'll go into cardiac arrest.

KJ is unlikely to find form in the twos or anywhere for that matter.

That's a really pathetic thing to say imo. You have just lowered yourself not worth the effort.

Why, because I don’t rate him? If I don’t rate a player, and yet they’ve been on the list a decade, and are given walk-up starts in the best 22 despite not earning it, that is a joke to me.

I agree but Kizza was brought in to help with the experience side of things. Losing Hayward has hurt us & Ronke's poor form hasn't helped our situation so unfortunately this doesn't create pressure for spots in our team.

I’m more than happy with this approach too. Experience isn’t everything, form is. We only have to look at Jack & Reid to see that they’re being carried. There are others too, there’s no doubt about that.

Just underwhelming

Jessie White territory
Come on Punts, comparing Reid to Jesse White is just ridiculous.

Since White left the Swans he has kicked 75 goals to Reid's 69, despite not being on a list for 2018/2019

Another stat?
Sam Reid probably let Jesse White hold his P'ship medal after the 2012 GF & they sat down together & watched Sam kick a magnificent goal & take some great marks when the game needed him to.
Jesse was a great player at Collingwood.
Keep trying to discredit our players mate.

Reid is currently in the final year of a lucrative five-year deal, which is understood to be in excess of $500,000 this year. He signed the long-term contract in 2012 after being a premiership player as a 20-year-old.
Reid has kicked 24 goals this season, just seven fewer than his career high which he produced in 2012.

Absolutely zero chance Reid took a pay cut back in 2017. No chance. No way he takes a pay cut aged 25/26.

So he is almost certainly on a $600k x 4 year deal or something very similar.

No, you didn't say the scenario was a joke, you called him a joke. And that'll do me...

Reid is like a reverse money ball player. His contracts are based on some imaginary 'potential' and the fantasy/perception that he a key position player/alpha male.

When you put the white noise aside and look purely at his statistical output - then he is really a low value player.

p.s
Its not his fault he is over-rated. He doesn't write his own contracts.
But he is very lucky.

KPPs often get paid on potential. And he has shown potential just before getting injured. There are periods where he looks like he could be a star and helps our structure. and then he spuds it up. However, given our lack of good entries into the forward 50. Im not sure hes the only one to blame.

I called him, as a footballer on a football club's list, a joke. Because he shouldn't be on our list IMO so it's a joke that he still is.

You don't agree, you rate him, that's fine. But if it was a post that was so unworthy of a response, why respond to it?
