Where were:

The Loved One - by the Loved Ones
Throw Your Arms Around Me - by Hunters and Collectors
The Real Thing - by Russel Morris
Pub With No Beer - Slim Dusty

All Aussie icons in their own way and all deserving of a top 20 spot.

(not to mention "alternative" classics like The Ship Song by Nick Cave, Shivers by Boys Next Door, Wide Open Road by the Triffids, Im Stranded by the Saints, Cattle and Cane by the Go Betweens, or No Aphrodesiac by the Whitlams)

exactly, i thought that Youthu Yindu song should have gotten into it, a real Aussie song that, with the most distinctive Aussie music, but they put in Locomotion and Shout instead

THROW YOUR ARMS AROUND ME!!!! Geez, how on earth could I forget about that one!

It absolutely HAS to be in the top 10.

While I could tolerate Kylie being in there, she was alarmingly high and they picked one of the worst songs an Australian has ever produced to represent her.
I was very relieved to see Delta miss out. I was worried she would make it.
I thought Farnham and AC/DC were WAY too low, but the greatest injustice of all was that Slim Dusty missed out altogether. Russell Morris and Hunters and Collectors were jibbed too. I would've liked to have seen Yothu Yindi and the Angels in there, but they would've been borderline at best, so it's not so bad they missed out.

I knew it would feature mainly commercial cr@p. I would of loved to have seen "Wide open road", "Not the way home" or "Mercy Seat" get in, but I knew it was never going to happen. A bit of Kevin "bloody" Wilson would have livened things up.

Noelene Donaher from Slyvania Waters was stiff to miss out.

I always have a little snicker to myself when I read of the Angels.

Takes me back to a mate in early high school and his spray paint exploits.

Looked really good "The Angles"

Another vote for throw your arms around me, Locomotion ? Seriously

Treaty contains plagiarism. Hardly distinctive Aussie music. Treaty = 3am.

Was "torn" the only post '80s song to make the list??
Name me an Aussie pop song that was good from post the 80's? Torn shouldnt be there.

Did any Paul Kelly songs get a mention?

Has anyone got the full list?
Most of the list is scattered around this thread. No, no paul kelly songs, you would have thought Dumb Things might have got a run as a pop song. ("leaps and bounds" and "from little things" are probably his better songs though)

17 I Honestly Love You - Olivia Newton-Bomb
16 Help Is On It's Way - LRB
15 Howzat - Sherbert
14 Georgy Girl - Seekers
13 Australiana - Austen Tayshus [it's not really a song]
12 Along Way To The Top - AC/DC
11 You Just Like Me 'cos I'm Good In Bed - Skyhooks
10 Beds are Burning - Oils
9 Great Southern Land - Icehouse [could've been higher]
8 Khe Sahn - Chisel
7 Locomotion - Kylie Mole
6 Don't Dream It's Over - Crowded House :thumbsu:
5 Never Tear Us Apart - Inxs
4 I Still Call Australia Home - Peter Allen
3 Eagle Rock - Daddy Cool
2 Down Under - Men at Work
1 Friday on My Mind - Easybeats

in regards to Kylie Minogue, in the late 80's George Harrison who's single matched Kylie, Rick Astley and Whitney's songs play for play, gave an interview where he was on hilarious form when talking about his "youthful and hip" company at the top of the charts, he called her Kylie Monologue, and said she had a cute little ass ;)

Livinia Nixon saying how she remembers watching Skyhooks on Countdown!! pffft (When was she born??)
No Hunters "Throw Your Arms Around Me" pffft
Natalie Imbruglia an all time Aussie Top 20 pffft
AccaDacca not top 5 pffffffft

Usual high credibility stuff from Nine who revolve a whole peak hour program around exposing the faces of their b-grade celebs. Surprised didn't have Eddie saying "I remember stomping to accadacca at the broady blue light" then again he would have had a lot more musical "credibility" than some others on the show

Any chance you can submit a post without the words "George" and "Harrison" in it? I bet if we were talking about the average temperature at midnight in the Simpson desert you'd be able to find a way to link it to George.

I spent a night camping in the Simpson some years back and it was bloody cold. Around dawn I remember thinking, thank god, here comes the sun.
