Nena should be in the top 20, although technically there were 2 x hits (99 red ballons the english version & 99 luft balloons the German version).

Here's a crack at the Top 20 (unless of course they go back further than the late 1970's)

    1. Shaddup your face - Joe Dolce
    2. My Sharona - The Knack
    3. Tainted Love - Soft Cell
    4. Idon't like Mondays - Boomtown Rats
    5. Jesse's Girl - Rick Springfield
    6. I will survive - Gloria Gaynor
    7. Eye of the tiger - Survivor
    8. Turning Japanese - The Vapours
    9. Video killed the radio star - The Buggles
    10. Centrefold - J. Giels Band
    11. Take on me - Aha
    12. Our lips are sealed - The Go Gos
    13. I want your love - Transvision Vamp
    14. Footloose - Kenny Loggins
    15. I love rock'n'roll - Joan Jett
    16. Black Betty - Ram Jam
    17. Come on Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
    18. Counting the beat - The Swingers
    19. Slice of Heaven - Dave Dobbin
    20. 99 Luft/red Balloons - Nena

Unluck to miss out..... What about me - Moving Pictures

I won't be watching. Curious to see what actually is Ch 9's version of the top 20

Almost impossible to do such a list - there's been so many of them.

Not a bad list Lidge. It did say international acts that had one hit in Australia, so there's a couple of Australian acts in your list that obviously won't be in the show.
Also, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts had I Love Rock N Roll and Bad Reputation which may exclude them.

    Didn't Kenny Loggins have a 2nd hit here ?
I'm sure Danger Zone from the Top Gun movie was popular here.

Springfield had another 'hit' in the 80s - 'Don't Talk to Strangers'.

They also had 'Freeze Frame', which did quite well.

The Go Gos also had 'We Got The Beat' and 'Vacation'.

He had 'Danger Zone' from Top Gun.

Probably, but 'Crimson and Clover' charted.

They have to get in - enormous number one. They had a couple of other minor songs though that charted, but I can't recall them

Not a bad list overall. Others to consider are:

Norman Greenbaum or Doctor and the Medics - Spirit in the Sky

The Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star

    Devo - Whip It

Dee-Lite - Groove is in the Heart

Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime

    Toni Basil - Mickey

    Blind Melon - No Rain

    Tommy Tutone - 8675309 Jenny

Londonbeat - I've Been Thinking About You

    4 Non Blondes - What's Up

    KWS - Please Don't Go

Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart

Crash Test Dummies - Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm

    Free - All Right Now

Bow Wow Wow - I Want Candy

    Bertie Higgins - Key Largo

Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It

Charlene - Never Been To Me

    Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U

Benny Mardones - Into the Night

Men Without Hats - Safety Dance

Sir Mix-A-Lot - Baby Got back

Young MC - Bust A Move

    Eddy Grant - Electric Avenue

    OMC - How Bizarre

Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You

The Weather Girls - It's Raining Men

Well done on a good list, though I thought NMW Bloods added some most worthy additions.

I feel I must defend the Buggles however as I thought their follow up single Clean Clean a classic, and Dexy's Midnight Runners follow up Geno (as well the very under-rated Seven Days Are Too Long) rule it out of one hit wonder class.

All in all it could prove quite a controversial list.

And before anyone suggests Harpo for the single Movie Star I should remind you that the follow up single Horoscope was top ten in Finland.

Fine work there NMWBloods. Some worthy additions to any short list (a top 100 would probably be easier).

BTW - the CEO of the company that I work for could possibly see himself nominated tonight. He was the drummer in Yes (that really ********y 80's song, owner of a lonely heart)

This show makes me embarrassed. Australian celebrities are so D-grade it isn't funny, we are the biggest country of w@nkers i've ever seen. I hope for our sake this isn't telecast in new zealand. They will be laughing about it for years.

I'm pretty sure "Never marry a railroad man" charted in this country anyway. You'd think Glenn "self Proclaimed rock guru" Baker would know that.
