We also picked up Foley, White and Howat through the rookie draft. We have also picked up P. Bowden, Brown and Kingsley. You're fogetting Will Thursfield too. It has been poor recruiting in the past under Frawley but we have the right people in place at the moment to make the right decisions

Somewhere their developments stalls when they come to the club. When I see all them irish players in other teams that have learnt aussie rules from scratch, it makes me wonder what has gone wrong.

2004 was good in my opinion. I think we all agree that our recruiting hasn't been too crash hot lately so we just need to hope and pray that those chosen from the last 2 or 3 years stand up.

Also, I think Richmond need to look more into a players work ethic, Alex Gilmour and Dean Polo are two who didn't seem to be committed to the club, Gilmour was delisted and Polo's career is stalling.

just a couple of points since 2002 we have elevated just 3 rookies to the seniors. and nearly every recycled player we have taken has either been disappointing or cost an arm and a leg.

It's true our record of developing young talent is very poor, and part of this must be because we just haven't given them a chance. Unfortunately we over-achieved in 2001 and 2005 - the result being that we tried topping up with B-grade senior players instead of juniors because someone obviously thought we were a shot at a flag. Kent Kingsley - you must be joking!!

Gilmour loved a bet a little too much - his ethic was terrible. he was offered a spot on our rookie list when he got cut, and turned it down:thumbsd:

This coming from a life long richmond supporter who bragged about who much he loved the club when we recruited him and had a boat called "punt rowed"

i think we should egg his house.....

When I see a club like geelong develop nathan ablett, with minimum junior footy experience and look at some of own, it really annoy me how our recuits cant do the same.

Our recruiting is about average. But that is the problem. If you start behind and perform about the same as everyone else - you stay behind.

We need a few lucky breaks. A rookie-list star (like Cox) or a mature-age contributer (like Kirk). A run of 6-7 good picks in one year (which is rare) but has helped the Dogs and Cats. Something to jump us from average to ahead of the pack - but everyone is trying to do that.

doesny help when you spend less money than anyone else in recruiting.

You spend less money on everyone else when you earn $20m less than the big teams.

Is there a Richmond supporter out there with pockets as deep as Richard Pratt's?

Don't want a cash injection to paper over the cracks but to put the building blocks in place so we can compete with the teams with better revenue streams than we currently have.

I still believe the disaffected fan base is huge and will rejoin if they see things are turning around ... we are one of the big 4 vic teams no matter what others may think
