Well with the 2001 footy season nearly over, it's time for reflection. This would have to be the worst footy season I have encountered as a
supporter since 1985 when Don Haddow was coach of South Fremantle. Every single team I followed ended the season on a heart wrenching low.
Over the summer I will be purchasing a book on common superstitions and will not be tempting fate in any way, shape or form.

It wasn't all doom and gloom though. Here is a few of the moments that make it worthg watching footy........

1) Winnie Abrahams tackle in which he does his knee. Less than 3.012224666 seconds on the field from the interchange saw Winnie the Roo launch a
tackle on Hird that is deemed illegal and Hird is given a free kick while Winnie clutches his knee. This all happened in one fluid motion.

2) Sydney host Freo at the SCG and the game is the standard of an under eights match. Whilst not wanting to single out any person in particular as
everyone was to blame, I feel that Shaun McManus' semi underground punt should be recognised.
He delightfully gets a handball whilst running past a pack and then streams like a guided trout towards the forward line. With the barest of glimpses at his leading target he drops the ball lovingly onto his boot but unfortunately his foot gets distracted and the ball hits the ground.
Realising that it should be kicking the ball, his foot tries to make up for lost ground and fails dismally. The ball is now making it's way back heavenward as his boot sinks into soft Sydney turf. Even in error he exudes an air of hard-done-byness.

3) Tony Liberatore leaping into the arms of his fellow Bulldogs as they celebrate the goal which is then deemed a point.....oh wait a minute that was a few seasons ago but it still makes me laugh, hee hee heee...
:D

A couple ...

1. Paul Williams shoots from 50 and then John Stevens takes a dive and the ball hits him in the middle of his back!!

2. Dale Lewis is trying to shoot for goal from point blank after picking up the ball and Troy Luff wont get out of the way (troy's 150th)

How about Johnny Barker running into the open goal and then turns and shows his opponents the ball, kicks the goal and they shove him over. He then gets another free kick and kicks another goal. Funny stuff, go johnny!!

And hawkfan, the front of your back is the park on the inside of your body, that faces the ribs.....don't you know anything!

Yeh that was brilliant.... Johnny Barker is a champion and should have been in the All-Australian team, he'll come back firing next year and kick 60 + goals playing up at full forward. Isolate him in the square one on one and he could beat anyone.

Sorry to stray from the rules a little, but the "funniest thing ever seen on a football field" award goes to S Loewe.
A season or two ago, you will no doubt recall him going for what was basically an uncontested mark, and he managed to come down with his forehead on his own knee. Not only did he split his head open, but he stuffed his knee AND his ankle all in the one graceful motion. That takes some doing, and could probably only be performed by someone as unco-ordinated as Stewie. On second thought, I am surprised Corey McKernan hasn't tried it yet !:D

Pensioner grabbing his undone fly/crotch and going up to brad asking if he was "hungry"

Port Adelaide trip, May 19th pre-game..funiest thing ever...the look on brad's face..LOL LOL LOL

oh u meant in an AFL game....probably seeing Pickett bein a smartarse to the pies cheersquad early in the Canberra match, and then coping it after we hit the front...funny s h i t.

Well against Tigers a dodgy goal had just been kicked and some Doggie supporter stood up with the ball in his hand and sconed the Goal Ump right on the head, forcing his head to jolt fwd

Loved every minute of it :D

Round 21 Sydney v StKilda

The Saints are getting flogged in the 2nd quarter

Dale Lewis takes a screamer in the goal square, climbing up the back of Justin Plapp.

He has a HUGE hysterical grin on his face, even before he starts leaping, and on the way down his grin has turned into a howl of laughter.

Plapp sees the joke as well and is laughing almost as hard as Lewie is by the time the mark is paid.

Plapp still thinks its a helluva a joke as Lewis goes back, and kicks the easiest of goals to put the Swans something like 40 points in front.

ummm, Justin ? - I think the joke was on you mate !

cheers

Go to hell

The Geelong supporter whom i was exchanging insults with all day at Shell Stadium disapearing two minutes before the final siren after Grant kicked the sealer. He took off faster than Cathy Freeman but to no avail. I spotted him walking down the stairs (at the scoreboard end) and proceeded to tell him what for, all the time pointing at the scoreboard...

I love winning...
