This was raised in the AFL board but deserves discussion here. On the back of Swan's brownlow, it is awful to look back at how badly we stuffed this one up and the long term affects on clubs

5 brownlow medals (Judd 2, Bartel, Ablett and Swan),
3 Norm Smith medals (Judd, Johnson, Hodge)
2 Premiership captains (Judd, Mitchell).
14 different all Australians (Judd, Ablett, Swan, Bartel, Mitchell, Hodge, Brown, Johnson, Kelly, Ball, Dal Santo, Montagna, Lake, Medhurst)

Plus the folowing players Waite, Schnieder, Ash Hansen, Andrew Welsh,Rodan, LRT, Seaby, Maguire, Gram, Ladson, Reilly and Hale

Melbourne: Luke Molan, Aaron Rogers, Steven Armstrong and Brad Miller :thumbsd:

Hindsight is a wondeful thing but looking back it shows how much 1 draft came back to bite us on the arse. We traded picks 17 and 41 for Clint Bizzel as well. Good player the Biz but gee would it be great to go back and redo our picks now. Really interesting to look at our 2008 and 09 drafts and fingers crossed they have the same positive impact for us deep into the future

We had such a good shot at getting judd, ball, hodge and ablett.

9- Luke Molan

12-Riley
13 Dal Santo
16- Ladson
17- J Kelly (pick we traded for Clint Bizzell and 41 (Playfair). We got the the pick for Jeff Farmer)
19 Gram
21- Maguire (good before serious injury)
24-Stevie J

25-26 Rogers and Armstrong for us

29-LRT
32- C Brown
33-Rodan
36-Mitchell
37- Montagna
38-Hansen
47-Welsh

We took Miller 55 though he gave good service

56-Medhurst
58- swan
71- B Lake (Harris)

Simply thought it was interesting to revisit, three teams got multiple senior players out of that draft, a couple did unbelievably well
They are Geelong, St Kilda and Hawthorn. Collingwood got Swan, however very easy to presume Swan thrived at Collingwood under a good system. Would he have done the same at Melbourne?

Shows how long a good/poor draft can affect your club.

I point this out as hopefully the 2008 and 2009 draft work out as well for us.

10 years on and you can see the impact it has had on teams who got it right.

Also highlights the importance of patience and getting the development of our players right. We had a bad draft in what turned out to be the best draft of all time. We are still paying for it. Hopefully we have corrected that recently and potentially have the chance to do that next year when we get Viney and have the Scully picks available

Hindsight is a wondeful thing but holy cow we ****ed that one up

Luke Molan - Pick #9 - Nick Dal Santo - Pick #13
Steven Armstrong - Pick #25 - Campbell Brown - Pick #32
Aaron Rogers - Pick #26 - Sam Mitchell - Pick #36
Brad Miller - Pick #55 - Dane Swan - Pick #58

If we only had the Delorean and the Flux Capacitor

Should note we got the Russian with pick 5 in the rookie Draft

Some noteables from the Rookie draft

Boyd, Thornton, Q Lynch, Sandilands, Bock, Rutten, Mattner, Carrazo

Unbelievable year

4 more AA players

You could have essentially drafted half a premiership team this draft, using your normal picks and keeping on going before anyone got the the pre-season and rookie drafts, and we got nobody ha

Emphatically seconded here too! If Doc Brown was prepared to lend it to us, we could go back and warn 'em....

We could have gone into the future and stolen that sports almanac. Noticing none of our picks are in it, we go back and get Stevie J.

Don't forget the 1.12 Gigawatts.

I don't mean to be rude but...well...Marty did once and it almost screwed him.

Think about it from a St Kilda perspective:

Pick 2: Luke Ball (Chris Judd)
Pick 5: Xavier Clarke (Jimmy Bartel)
Pick 13: Nick Dal Santo (leave as is)
Pick 21: Matt Maguire (Steve Johnson)
Pick 37: Leigh Montagna (leave as is)
Pick 67: Pass (Brian Lake/Harris)

They would have won at least two flags.

They still got two decent players... two more than we did :o
