WOW.

What a night................a very 'different' experience.

Commisserations to Katrina Bills on missing out on the position on the Board. of 2100 odd voters who each had to pick 2 ppl, she got 700 odd votes, so a third is far from a bad effort. Katrina, please, if you feel you can make a bigger difference, please put your hand up again next year.

Questions were better answered this year than in previous years, but hey we got a new saying from the night, and straight from the head honchos mouth "I'll Take That On Board"..........yes Mr Downie we are glad to hear it!!!!!!!!!!

We had 2 special guests, and one got more applause than the other.............sorry Mr new CEO, but the CUP did sorta get more applause, nothing personal mind you....................just one of those things!

I can't really give a report tonight - I really need some sleep - but I will post up a report of sorts tomorrow, or add to one that someone else may start....................

Maverick............I gotta mention you here matey.............your fave up and coming............oh ah bugger me do, how do I say it............. ok how about a quote/repeat as close as I can without getting too many stars put in it.........."......" umm no sorry can't do..........might ask the same question again on Friday and see if I get a printable result.......but suffice to say..........Sorry Mavoso............bubba aint going no where fast. And that is straight from the big-boss-horses mouth (also better known as the short man with grey hair and black mo that has a jock mchale medal).

I will post more of what he said tomorrow. I am still in shock. He doesn't even say as much in interviews as he said tonight. It just blew us all away. And this wasn't a convo/speech to the AGM attendees, this was in a private convo with 4 of us after the meeting. His thoughts on where we are now, who can improve dramatically this year, why, how and what their upcoming strengths are, who is the best of 'non top 15' for the last 3 weeks. where the injuries are up too.........blah blah blah..........he told us all. It was friggin amazing!

Oh yeah and the big 'news' of the night - the GG no longer the number one ticket holder. The story can be found here: http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,3896610%5E1702,00.html

BUT

that story fails to mention the beginning of the announcement. That the GG actually offered his resignation mid last year (calender wise not footy wise) due to his now/then distance from the club and ability to be at games, contribute to the club etc as he was no longer in Brisbane but in Canberra. The club encouraged him to see out the remainder of 2001 in that position (seeing as it is an annual position) and today decided to accept the resignation, Many months after it was offered.

They also stressed that it has NOTHING to do with the controversy around at the moment in relation to his Governer Generalship.

Pretty unfair of the media to quote parts of the speech, but not those ones.

Yeah and I have more cricketing credibility than Richie Benaud and Steve Waugh combined

Obviously not enough young players on the Lions list :D :p

Hansie

Danni, stop talking in riddles...I can't understand you.

What do you mean 'bubba's not going anywhere fast'?

Does that mean

1) He is happy in Brisbane and wants to play up there for the next 10 years.

2) Or his football is going no where and he will be playing in the magoos for some time yet. If so, is this due to A) his attitude problem B) his ability C) other, please elaborate.

Sounds like you had a good night.

Sorry Mav, I was just trying to finish off a whole lot of other stuff before I posted more here. To answer your q's

He will be in the ressies for a while. A number of reasons for that, but basically a good combination of attitude, which doesn't help him reach his potential ability.

Bascially by trying to be too flashy, he is being selfish and not helping the whole team.

Matthews did say tho that over the last 3 weeks Hammond has impressed him. And that what is more obvious this year is that when our topline players get injured or ill, there is a really big gap skill/ability wise, between them and the players who will replace them.

OMG!!! Noel Gordon's back! Where'd he score the Jock from, though?

Danni,

Interesting debrief there - if you look at the team over the last few years, our only real 'youing gun' recruit has been Jon Brown, with guys like Beau and Rob C growing into a role. The guys we got last season - Mal, Pikey - slotted in as experienced players. The real improvement has been moving players to their correct positions - Chris , Leppa, Akers to the back line, a large group of rotating midfielders and the gelling of a game plan and self belief. Our best draft was with Simon Black, Luke Power etc and we have struggled a bit since then.

I think most of the other young players need to grow into their roles - given set tasks to do without too much fear of failure ( as in you'll get a few weeks in ). Craig Bolton, Des Headland etc seem to fit this role as they don't seem destined for key position roles as yet.

But remember we went nearly all season without Justin and Luke was definately underdone, so there's improvement in just those two.

A great pity about Riewolt (?) - that's the kind of player that should be with the Lions. But this is what happened with Fitzroy, as the other Melbourne clubs picked over the players and changed the rules to suit their short term ends.

thanks for your synopsis of the agm, danni.

1) very disapointed we did not give the gg the bloody arse and think the board were weak as.... there.
he is an absolute disgrace.

2) bad luck for katrina. thought downie's letter in the same envelope as the ballot papers asking people not to vote for her was "very off".
if it was constitutional, then the rule should be changed.
at best it was unethical.
he and the board certainly have nothing to crow about with an $860,000 loss in a premiership year.
what would it be if we had not made the finals?
i shudder to think

3) i believe he also has the right to use votes of members who did not vote or attend.
this rule has to change also. was anything said at the meeting?
