I just watched the entire game. After viewing that last quarter, Collingwood should've won by three goals, painful memories but what are your views on this great game?

To be honest, I try and not think about it anymore. It's too painful.

I've watched the replay a few times and disagree that we deserved to win "by three goals."

It really could have gone either way in the last quarter. They did it a better for a little longer than us. What killed us was our inability to hold the ball in at the end of quarters. Watch junk time of every quarter...it cost us the match.

I also dont' buy the whole "we were robbed" thing, they also had a goal disallowed when Black goaled early in the last quarter, only for us to get a free because it was called that the handball to Black was a throw. Replays show that it wasn't.

It was a great game and we were just unfortunate to be on the receiving end.

In a GF you're judged on your weakest six players. Our top 12-15 players went toe for toe with Brisbane and were outstanding, but the few that failed to deliver basically cost us the Premiership - Molloy, Davis, Davis, Freeborn, and 1-2 others. I'd put Tarrant in that category too for failing to kick goals when it counted, although he played well enough around the ground. Licuria was also poor on the day.

They were better than us and had more depth out on the ground. They had maybe 1-2 passengers - we had 5-6. That was the difference along with the fact that we couldnt match it in the ruck.

Goals kicked deep in time on is what cost us. I think from memory brisbane kicked a total of 5 goals in the final 2 mintues of 3 quarters.

Pretty good points hotpie.

From what I remember, I thought Freeborn had a decent day. However, I haven't watched the game since. I was so disappointed and was ********ed off that it's so hard to win a flag and we came so close.

I'm still proud of that effort though. We gave it absolutely everything that day.

Peope say that the Rocca point decision cost us. I disagree on this because Fraser goaled very soon after. What definitely cost us the game was when Tarrant wasn't paid the free-kick 20 metres out from goal for what was a clear over the shoulder. This would have put us 9 points up and I think we would have gone on from there. To cap it all off, the ball went down their end and Lynch was given one of the softest free kicks of all time given the circumstances. It surprised me that more wasn't made of these two decisions at the time.

I was sitting just behind that, near the collingwood cheer squad. Lets just say i dont think i've ever lost my cool at the footy like that b4....

I could very well have jumped over the fence and become "that guy that ran on the field and whacked the umpire in 02"

Anyways, thats all im gonna say about that subject... i only brought myself to watch most of the game (about 3 and a half quarters) on fox footy a few years later, and havent watched it again since.

still havent seen the post match presentation at all (walked out as soon as the siren went, came back in to meet my friend who i was taking home just in time to see buckley get the norm smith, then left again)

Disagreed, I promise on my life for once i am not being biased Collingwood were robbed, there were two '2 goal turn-arounds' in the last qtr alone that went against Collingwood.
1, Rocca's shot went in, went opposite side of the ground and Brisbane goaled.

2, Tarrant deserved a free kick 10-15 metres out (Both Walls & Blight said DIRECTLY it was a free kick) went opposite side of the ground and Lynch goaled.

Those were just two examples, although Blacks goal should've been allowed because Power didn't throw it, Tarrant's shot wasn't touched and there were numerous other shots on goal & free kicks that didn't go Collingwood's way.

Might I mention Fraser's performance that game made me very eager to see how he performs this year up in the forward line.

but if i remember right didnt brisbane kick a sh ite load of points, therefore having a lot more scoring opportunities. i always thought they were gonna get up, we were awesome and valiant, but they always just seemed to be playing a little better

just on that note also, i have looked back at the dvd of that season and over time i had forgotten how many leaping mercurial marks fraser was capable of. i too am dying to see him playing up forward, i reckon he could do exactly what kozi did this year if fit, i rate the two of them extremely closely actually in terms of ability and build etc...

Where the hell did you get that from? The Lions only scored two goals in the last quarter, Lynch and Aker, both late in the quarter.

At the 8-minute mark or so, Rocca had the goal disallowed. I was behind the goal, it was a terrible call. BUT..2 minutes later Fraser marked in the goal square and goaled.

As for Tazza's kick not being touch? It was clearly touched. I've never heard one Pies fan dispute that in three years since the GF. And in the fourth quarter, when he pushed in the back by White, it probably should have been a free but it wasn't blatant. Besides, the way Tazza was playing that day he would have hit the post!

The way I saw it, we had a goal disallowed, so did they.

Stop making excuses. We were not robbed. We were good, but just not good enough.

I was there. I saw the game. I have watched the replay countless times....to 3/4 time. Only once have I gone the whole way, and it was oh so painful. We had it in the bag the whole way through until the very finish.

A) Rocca's point was a goal
B) Aka's goal was the only time he was loose all afternoon
C) Lynch DID NOT deserve that freekick against Wakes/McKee. I was right next to it in the PRE Pocket, and it was NO FREE KICK!

Boy, does that GF hurt. But I was so proud of all 22 players...

The Simon Black goal hurt us a lot. Scotty Burns laid one of the best hip and shoulders I've seen (on Voss) , and it would have meant the end of a mere mortal. But somehow Voss managed to recover, scramble on his knees and find the ball and then put out a bullet handball to Black who goaled in heavy traffic. It was the killer blow.

Agreed, Burns played his hardest that game, he also did some damage to Brown for about 10 seconds too lol but he played a very hard game and he helped alot more then people think, he kicked a great goal aswell

That was only in the second quarter. What killed us were two incidents. The first was Tarrant missing a sitter of a goal from a set shot in the third quarter - would have put us two goals in front and with a massive ascendancy. The second was the Tarrant non-decision just after the Fraser goal. This would have nearly sealed it the way we were travelling. On that second incident, why didn't Buckley just run an extra five metres and have a shot?

A few things cost us that day! Playing Molloy was a mistake, rocca's goal that was paid a point cost us too. We where a well drilled unit and probably deserved to win it.

What i believe really cost us was the so called "high" contact to lynch late in the last quarter.

nasty stuff...i havent watched it since going.

never will
our time will come one day

Tarrants kick wasnt touched, I was sitting almost level with it. If he had been paid that it wouldnt have suprised me if we won the game comfortably as Tarrant is a huge confidence player

Power threw it, right call there

White infringed on Tarrant in every possible way, then Lynch got 1 30 seconds later after crying to the umpires all day

The goal umpire cheated, just have to watch his eyeline, it went through the middle, maybe he crumbled under the pressure and went for the lesser score who knows
