2003 Grand final

While I agree with most of Porthos' statements, I think our biggest weakness is our defence. The forward line and the score can look after itself as we showed last year, with our damaging goal kicking midfielders (Kerr, Cousins, Chambers, Judd).

But I really think our defence is going be our weakest link this year. We got pulled apart a number of times by small forwards, and hopefully Read can be put on those kinda guys and make an impact.

I wholeheartedly agree with the statement that one injury to one of our main players won't effect the team TOO much. That's one of the good things about our list, it's very deep, we've got a lot of players who can fill the gaps.

I definitely think we can improve on last year, so I honestly, and trying to be unbias think we will finish somewhere between 5th and 8th.

I can't see any of last year's bottom 8 making the GF this year - too much improvement required, although I can see Freo and Geelong and maybe the Hawks getting into the lower reaches of the 8.

Of last years top 8, I think the Roos and Demons are headed downward and Essendon are too much like the post-94 Eagles - perennial finalists, never grand finalists.

West Coast don't have enough experience to get there (for all the jibes about an ageing list).

I think Collingwood over-achieved last year, and will slip back to the middle of the 8, although with a bit of luck again could make the GF.

Adelaide haven't lost anything, Port will be strong again and Brisbane will still be Brisbane.

So my thoughts are probably Brisbane v Port or Adelaide, with Collingwood as an outsider. Dark horse would be West Coast if we continue to improve - very dark though.

CROWS v BRISBANE - for sure!!! brisbane will definately be there, and crows are considered to be the biggest threat to them.

but remember, the season proper hasnt even started, so it could be too early to predict the grand finalists

And going on previous years where most people predicted the same thing before the start of the season, I would venture to suggest that you will all be...WRONG!!!

I hate myself for this, but i think Collingwood's best is capable of beating any team on their day. They are very well organised, very even, and have the hardness to be more than competitive in September. They havent quite been scarred enough (yet) for their psyche to be as fragile as Port Adelaide's possibly is and have the best coach in the league.

I feel dirty.

Brisbane are very hard to go past for obvious reasons, but the law of averages says they have to have a few things go wrong for them and gut feel says they wont get there. Adelaide look very appealing though.

Port dont have it between the ears or the leadership group to take that next step IMO.

Maybe most people are sick to death of all these god damn Victorian teams in the grand final.

Teams outside Victoria are just as good, if not better, and Brisbane and Adelaide seem to be the two best atm.

With the one compulsory Prelim game at the MCG, is it possible for an all non-victorian Grand Final? I'm tipping at least one Vic team to play-off in the GF.

But who? Collingwood apparently overachieved, Melbourne don't quite seem to be in the same class as Brisbane/Port/Crows, Essendon have lost a lot of quality+lack ruckman, Hawks have dud coach and the rest are irrelevant.

my tip:

Port v Melbourne

No hat-trick for the lions, and Melbourne to have an easy run through to the GF with all games at the G after finishing 5th.

I think there are five teams that could play in the 2003 grand final. Would be hard to pick whom. We are all guessing really. –

Five teams –

Brisbane – Port – Adelaide – Collingwood (and the smoky is) Melbourne

Grand final – Adelaide V Collingwood (winner best team on the day, and who really wants it more)
