2004 Mock Draft

I seriously think Bogut will be top 5 by the time the year is through.

As for #1, I'd go with Okafor... but knowing how GMs draft these days it will be Podkolzine (Euro with upside) or Howard (HSer with upside).

Ivan Chiriaev will be a top 3 selection.

I saw a 5 minute highlight tape of this kid and was amazed.

The guy is a legit 7'1" yet has the ball handling ability of a Jason Kidd.

Will probably be a Detlef Schrempf type in the NBA in time, but will play the point at times as well.

A true freak.

As it stands, Dwight Howard will go number 1. As most highschoolers go he'd probably benefit from a couple of seasons of school, but his upside is enormous.

I too have heard great things about this kid. Dirk has great ballhandling skills but apparently this 7 footer has B.Diddy/Iverson type moves. I read an article about him and he actually wants to play PG?? Move over 6'9 PG Magic :D

Chiriaev's certainly got confidence. I just read an interview where he said he'll be a better player than Dirk

The thought of a 7 footer playing the point is scary, but could he do it at NBA level? Being able to handle the ball well is one thing, but playing point requires court vision and an understanding of the game.

I remain skeptical about Chiriaev. Remember he's playing Canadian HS ball, a far cry from the AAU scene which Dwight Howard and Josh Smith dominate.

Highlight tapes are quite misleading though, anyone could look half decent on them ;)

I see what your saying though, anyone that's 7 foot and can play guard has to be held in high consideration come draft time. Can he shoot? Does he have range yet?

:D What about Spud Webb on Earl's shoulders?

I think we all know Spud could throw one down on this Chiriaev fella.

and Muggsy:D

One of my favourite NBA highlights was Ewing going for a fadeaway and Muggsy blocking him from behind :D

Did you see Earl Watson block Shawn Bradley from behind? Shawn had the open lay-up, took a bit too casually and Earl, sprinted, climbed and swatted it from behind, one of the funniest/most amazing things i've seen.
