Obviously there will be trades, drafting etc... but with the current list, here is my side to tackle Hawthorn in Round 1 2004:

B. Matthew Whelan, Nathan Carroll, Clint Bizzell
HB. Cameron Hunter, Ryan Ferguson, Brad Green
C. Chris Heffernan, Scott Thompson, Adem Yze
HF. Russell Robertson, Brad Miller, Cameron Bruce
F. Steven Armstrong, David Neitz, Mark Jamar
R. Jeff White, Guy Rigoni, Travis Johnstone
Int. Darren Jolly, Simon Godfrey, James McDonald, Daniel Bell

Players left out: Daniel Ward, Nathan Brown, Troy Broadbridge, Luke Williams, Nick Smith

A few notes:

* Brad Green in a new role on a HBF.
* Cameron Hunter to start the year in the seniors. He should weight 75kg by next year.
* Thompson full games in the centre.
* 3 ruckmen (this could be tried in the Wizard Cup).
* Bell (my lovechild) to debut.

Yes, I am bored.

While I love the side mate, I can see you might be a bit TOO bored.

- Hunter won't start ahead of Brown and Ward. There is no chance of this happeneing, as much as we all might want it too.

- 3 ruckmen won't happen either. Jolly and White can interchange up forward, but having 3 in? Smith would be far better as a permanent forward.

- Nicholson will start at FB unless he is injured. He had the most defensive spoils for the club this season, and a much better player down back than the others, especially in a one on one contest.

- Green on a HBF? I've never seen the guy chase... EVER!

- Thompson in the middle is a great idea, and I believe that along with Armstrong, these guys will have big 2004's.

And apart from that, I think it's generally a very good side. Bell is a long shot, but I'll let ya have that one! ;)

I tend to agree here.
There is no way Hunter will get a spot on the HBF ahead of Brown and Ward who will both be in the side. Can't see 3 ruckman happening, also who have you named Jamar ahead of Jolly? Jolly would be well ahead in the development department and has shown an ability to take a contested mark, something Jamar struggles with.

Green has next to no defensive side to his game, so can't see him on a HBF anytime soon, and Nicho will most likely line up at FB.

I tooo will give you Bell though, but only if he fires in the pre-season!

Maybe he can work on it over summer and in the preseason, I think he'd be good getting the ball into the forward line with 60 metre kicks onto neitzs chest.

Here is my hopeful team.

FB: Clint Bizzell, Nathan Carroll, Matthew Whelan

HB: Peter Walsh, Ryan Ferguson, Cameron Bruce

C: Chris Heffernan, Scott Thompson, Steven Armstrong

HF: Brad Green, Brad Miller, Russell Robertson

FF: Jeff Farmer, David Neitz, Peter Vardy

R: Jeff White, Travis Johnstone, Adem Yze

INT: Daniel Bell, Nick Smith, Simon Godfrey, Darren Jolly

------------

OUT: Craig Ellis, Alistair Nicholson, Luke Williams, Troy Broadbridge, Nathan Brown, Daniel Ward, Mark Jamar, Guy Rigoni, James McDonald, Cameron Hunter, Aaron Rogers, Jared Rivers.

I don't rate either Brown or Ward, which is why I left them out. It's more than likely that they will play though.

Same goes for Nicholson.

I do have Jolly ahead of Jamar. White and Jolly would do 80% of the ruckwork, while Jamar would do 20% and spend time up forward. It could work, but it also couldn't. Myabe replace Jamar with Smith, who could do some ruck work if required.

Green on a HBF was an idea out of left field. Should be tried in the Wizard Cup IMO.

Cam Hunter could surprise you. He will have bulked up significantly by then, and we all know he is talented.

What this thread shows is that the fortunes of a side can turnaround quickly with the addition of new talent such as Rivers & Davey, & improvement in the likes of Brown (who none of you mentioned & unlucky to miss AA selection), Miller, Thompson, McDonald & Wheatley. I reckon if you guys find another key defender to support Rivers, the future looks very bright ... though it is an odd year coming up. ;)

Kane, I've already reminded this lot enough times about their distinct lack of respect for Brown throughout the ENTIRE 2004 pre-season. :D

The majority of whom wolfed down their humble pie in May ;)

Thank christ your not on the selection pannel.
But if you were then at least we'd got a priority pick.
