Come on.

Great results for the AFL though, it really shows the influence of Sydney and the importance of the city to a national competition. The 2 highest rating grand finals involved Sydney.
The Sydney public love a big bandwagon and there was none bigger than the Swans last week, the whole city was behind them in one way or another.

Thats what i thought but then QLD has a bigger pop and is starting to come of age as far as being a AR state..... this year a record 10 QLDers were invited to draft camp out of around 60 footballers .... great %.

The market there is starting to mature and will IMO only get stronger.

Swans saluted

SYDNEY yesterday turned on a heroes welcome for its triumphant Swans.

More than 100,000 fans packed the CBD – a remarkable display in a city often accused of lacking interest in AFL.
Cheering fans waved flags and showered the players with red and white streamers during a ticker tape parade from Circular Quay to Town Hall.

City workers hung out of office windows to catch a glimpse of the premiership-winning players passing by.

The most vocal support was reserved for coach Paul Roos.

Nick Davis, who scored the goal which secured the Swans place in the Grand Final, was shocked to hear tens of thousands of people had turned out the cheer the team.

"We have only gone 50m and there are so many people here, it is amazing," he said.

"To have our own supporters here and to see their smiles, allows what we have done to sink in."

Veteran Michael O'Loughlin was also shocked by the turnout.

"I expected to see a few people but not as much as this, it seems a lot of people have taken a day off work," he said.

Brett Kirk put on a show for Bek Ohlin, 20, and 12 of her friends in Sydney for a netball tournament.

They cheered as he jumped out of his utility to shake hands with fans who lined the route.

"The parade was huge," Ms Ohlin said.

Devoted fans travelled hundreds of kilometres to see the victorious team.

June Nuedel from Brisbane flew in yesterday morning.

"I came down specially for this," she said.

An excited Megan Smith, 8, could only say, "I love the Swans" after player Jason Ball lifted her into the air.

Sisters Lauren, 9, and eight-year-old Emily Dennis from Beecroft could hardly contain their excitement.

"We have followed them since they moved to Sydney. This is great," their father Garry said.
