Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Andrew Swallow's form in the intra-club yesterday looked ominous.
Seems to have improved everything - kicking, burst speed, strength in packs.

He kicked 3 goals and had a mountain of possessions.

Look for Swallow to overtake Jones in 2008 and be rated higher by years end.

i like swallow but jonesy i think is a class above.

I think Jones is ahead ATM, but only just.

Two of the most similar players in the league and in the same class IMO.

Same strengths, same weaknesses.

Psycho attackers of the ball, aggressive tacklers, good pace, questionable disposal by foot, able to dig deep at the death...

Jones carried a bigger load for you guys in 2007 because of the relative mid-field strengths, but based on yesterday it looks like Swallow will step up further.

These two will go head to head for a long time at a very similar level.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Warnock was a steal for us at 42. Hopefully he wont get homesick.

I don't know why everyone rates Warnock so high. The dud got dropped to the 3rds at school football level in year 12. All he is a a beampole. The only reason he got a game is because Sandy got injured. And the only people who rate him are collingwood fans because the dwarf from lord of the rings would make a better ruckman then the ones they have now.

He will be coming back to Melbourne at the end of next year.

Because Hawthorn have such quality ruckmen in Campbell/Taylor?

Fraser>>>>>>Both of them.

17 (3) Xavier Ellis
18 (36) Jake Edwards
19 (10) Marcus Drum
20 (41) Rhan Hooper

:thumbsu: nice job! i would almost agree, but my top 5 would be something like this:

1) Scott Pendlebury - absolute superstar, edges out Murphy due to more games = more quality provided for observers.
2) Marc Murphy - unlucky not to keep no.1 mantle, very classy...future star
3) Grant Birchall - another superstar, consistent, strong, classy...will be a 200+ player of quality
4) Shannon Hurn - strong and has great attitude, very important player to eagles, which justifies his standing at no.4
5) Dale Thomas - simple: X-Factor...exciting and explosive player...not as highly rated as others due to the fact that on any given day, an X-Factor player can be up above the clouds, but over time, can certainly be in-consistent...ala. leon davis...good one week, putrid beyond belief the next...

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Throw a blanket over Murphy and Pendlebury for 1. I think Pendlebury had a far more consistant year, almost taking out the b&f while Murph didn't even make the top 10 from memory. Watching Murphy's game against Essendon early in 2007 made me realise that he really did trail off towards the end of the season, such was the dominance he showed in that game.

It's a bit difficult to rank the rest at this stage, just because there are guys like Muston and Bailey who I've seen show fantastic signs at VFL level but haven't made it to the top flight yet.

If you're going on output thus far I would argue that Joel Patfull who is our centre half back and has played 36 games should be considered for that list. He has done more than Mitch Clark for example.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Good comparison and I have no idea which will end up being the better player, I'm just glad that one of them plays for us.

If your going on output Birchall is easily a top 4 selection, maybe even more.

1. Grant Birchall
2. Marc Murphy
3. Dale Thomas
4. Scott Pendlebury
5. Sam Gilbert
6. Matthew Stokes
7. Andrew Swallow / Nathan Jones (Cant split them)

Agree.

So important to have players like this in your team. Those that set the standard in terms of commitment at the contest. North have been blessed with players like this over the last decade, and they definitely reduce the soft factor in your midfield because it is hard to get away with anything when you have these types goo 100 kms very game.

Rare to find them doing it at senior level at the age Swallow and Jones are as well.

I reckon the key to both is to add a goal kicking string to the bow. They have both already shown glimpses, but if they can consistently kick 20+ goals a season, their stocks rise further. Both are capable of doing it.

Found it alot harder then i thought it would be but if you dont see it being right make your own i know a few Hawthorn supporters will fine this interesting
What has Varcoe done to deserve a top ten rating ahead of Swallow and Kennedy?
