Draft Review 2005 - Redo the 2005 Draft

Birchall is the best half-back in the league for mine.

My bias aside though he's clearly in the top few for his position, which I can't comprehend how this would be up for discussion, though I think the few plonkers that disagree are entitled to be wrong. Free country and all that.

He'd be dual AA had he not been struck down by injury last season, yet still finished high in our B&F. He is so important to how we play, and especially with how we transition from defense to attack.

After an amazing start to the season he got tagged to oblivion before getting injured, so AA was far from a certainty. That said he's a great half back and up there with the best, but when all are injury free it's pretty close between Birchall, Enright, McVeigh, Hibberd and Hanley (when he plays there rather than mid/wing).

Hibberd and Hanley have to do it for more than 1 season to be compared to those 3 who have done it for much longer.

I do agree though that they look capable of consistent good footy across half-back. Rate them both.

Big deal, Birchall has been top shelf for 2 years, hardly much longer. If anything shows that those 2 are coming on much quicker.

You have actually got no idea. Birchall has been a good player from his very first game, the question over him was whether he would get more aggressive and take that next step - or had he peaked early and hit his ceiling. In the last three seasons he has clearly taken his game to another level and has been a first class performer.

He did not get 'tagged to oblivion' last season either. Why peddle rubbish as facts if you haven't even bothered to look them up?

Absolutely no chance in hell. Murphy is criminally under rated on here, is clear number 2 from the draft. If you were going to pick at anything it should be Thomas at 4.
Why? Do you drop down the list if you get injured in one season? Then Murphy should be plumetting after playing like crap after breaking his cheekbone.

Surely Jones is now sitting right on the edge of the top 5. Started the season unbelievably. 38 and 34 touches, and you can't accuse him of being a seagull.

Birchall ain't a gun mid but he is just about the best HBF in the game and much better than a good-average player. One of the first picked at Hawthorn, just look at his best and fairests results the past 3 years. Last year he still came 6th or so after missing about 8 games. He is a gun.

Pendles no. 1 easily you'd think.

Bernie Vince over Spitta Swallow?

Bernie Vince over Spitta Swallow?
Swallow 3x B&F - Vince 2x B&F - both very good players. My selection was more about who has the greatest 'hurt' factor. I really like Swallow - I will always remember the game he played against the Crows where he picked up 15 possessions in the first quarter.
