If there was a draft today with these players in it this is how I would draft them. Stokes is discounted because he was drafted mature age and should have higher expectations.

Pretty accurate id say, Ryder would be chosen on the pure fact he has been good and is a KPP which is always great. Great to see Jones, Birchall and Vince get recognised. Definately all top 10 and Jones definately top 5.

Pretty good draft year by the looks of your list.

1.Murphy
2.Pendles
3.Stokes
4.Thomas
5.Priddis

Thats based on what they've shown thus far. Don't think Stokes has been given enough respect, but in fairness to alot of you, he would struggle to look bad in that team, and perhaps that should be taken into account. I think Murph deserves the no.1 spot. Even Justin Leppich said on Triple M that class wise, Judd Stevens Murphy>Power Black Adcock or Johnstone, which is a big wrap n im not sure its accurate but clearly our opposition see Murph's potential to damage. Keep in mind, Murph's barely recieved a tap to advantage in 3 years due to our depleated rucks. Priddis i think warrents himself a top 5 spot, however i think he may be slightly overratted, in that sure he gets alot of the ball, but often just bombs it forward, and thus isnt the most damaging player around. The other 2 we hear about every 2 mins so what do i need to say.

Sorry if i left anyone out but cant be bothered looking through the whole list.
Matt "Sideshow" Priddis was rookie listed in 2006 and elevated the same year.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Dude no-one knows our players over here.

Vince is a star and Douglas was playing awesome footy before his knee.

No-one would even know who David MacKay was.

I wouldn't be surprised if people didn't know who Tippett and Porplyzia were.

I know Porplyzia, one of my favourites. And we all saw Tipett in the NAB cap.

You would have to put Bower ahead of some of those - certainly ahead of Drum, at least. He has been excellent this year.

Looks at this early stage that the recuiters got the top 10 fairly right part from JON and Dowler. Both Clark and Drum and have shown that at there best at AFL level that they have the talent to jump right up that list

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

yeah vince is a damn good player. under-rated.

very impressive player.

agree, i would have drum and clark higher on that list

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

given all the hype essendon supporters created about ryder, i think he's failed to live up to what was expected of him this year. i don't blame him as he's only a young KPP and needs time to develop but hopefully it'll teach essendon supporters to not jump the gun and announce him as a superstar before he's actually done anything. i've got no doubt he'll turn out one of the premier big men in the afl in about 5 years, but let's not forget he's only 1 year younger than franklin. originally i had him at 3 in my re-done draft, but i think now i'd prefer thomas over him.

1-murphy
2-pendlebury
3-thomas
4-ryder
5-kennedy
6-jones
7-birchall
8-hurn
9-ellis

13-bower

15-clark

To be fair on Ryder his form at the start of the season was pretty special, and he plays a key post in one of the worst defensive teams in the comp.

I like it, but I would have the top 10 like this:

1. Murphy
2. Pendlebury
3. Thomas
4. Jones
5. Stokes
6. Ryder
7. Birchall
8. Hurn
9. Kennedy
10. Ellis

Clark, McKinley & Ibbotson looking the goods too.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

birchill at 7????? easily top 5
It's not like 7 is that far from 5

He isn't near the top 3, Jones has been close to Melbourne's leading midfielder since last season and Stokes, with a premiership medal to his name, is one of the best small forwards in the competition. He could possibly go above Ryder, who has struggled of late - but keep in mind Ryder has been playing on #1 forwards, one-out, with the worst midfield in the comp supporting him.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

In that years phantom draft I took (in order) Ryder, Thomas, Neagle (F/S), Bode and Tuck.

If any AFL administrators are out there all I want is a 100k package to start off with

Nah.

Thomas >> Jetta.

:p

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Higgins should be a lot higher...top 10. He has shown more than Hurn & Kennedy atm IMO, but H & K will take longer to develop.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

I don't think we could have possibly done better than what we did with this draft. Call me biased but a few years down the track Ellis will be absolute top notch and the same with Birchall
