Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Who knows? I certainly wouldn't have murphy ahead of him, he coughs up the ball too often. Xav is very efficient with his disposal and is averaging 20 touches a game in his second season.

Vincey!!!

Has a booming kick, seen him unload a 65m goal this year, and a very good overhead player. I rate Ellis though.

Found it alot harder then i thought it would be but if you dont see it being right make your own i know a few Hawthorn supporters will fine this interesting
Stokes below Varcoe? Surely you're not putting Geelong's third most prolific goalkicker this season below one of their fringe players? Surely Hurn is a bit high too?

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

What the hell are you talking about???
I never said anything about disposials or Dane Swan?

I was talking about you saying Jones is a "Decent Player" but not a game Breaker(wich i highlighted)

And i hope your not saying Jones is anything like Swan!!! Jones is an inside mid who earns his disposials and is probebly one of the toughest (hardest at the ball) midfielders going around!! but what makes him stand out is that he is incredibly tough but he also has awesome skills!!

Swan=Cheap posessions off half back

You are not even worth arguing with your comments are stupid and pointless....

Pretty funny going back a few years and seeing what people have written!

p.s. surely Pendlebury is miles out ahead now?

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

5 years is ample time to make judgements. Well done Collingwood. Gee-whiz the Hawks & Tiges had a shocker.

1. Pendlebury
2. Murphy
3. Thomas
4. Ryder
5. Mitch Clark
6. Vince
7. Swallow
8. Higgins
9. Gilbert
10. Hurn

Next few: Kennedy, Varcoe, Douglas...not the greatest draft of all time.

A lot of love for a bloke who's only had one decent season.

Pendlebury that far in front it isn't funny.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

I dunno if Pendlebury is that far in front (I mean he is the best performed so far, but not at the un-paralleled level). Norm Smith, and did very well in the Brownlow and everything, certainly the most talented player at Collingwood, but players who haven't had an opportunity in succesful teams yet (Swallow, Hurn, Murphy, Ryder) or haven't had a good run with injuries (Higgins) shouldn't be discounted

Plus Josh Kennedy.

JK would star if he played Dawes' (or Cloke's) position and received lace out passes from a great midfield.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

With the benefit of hindsight, this is the order I'd select the available players in;

1.Pendlebury
2.Gilbert
3.Thomas
4. Swallow
5. Kennedy
6. Ryder
7. Hurn
8. Carlile
9. Higgins
10. Vince
11. Varcoe
12. Clarke
13. Murphy
14. Douglas
15. Birchall
16. Toovey

Higgins and Murphy are both vastly overrated, although Higgins does have the potential to break that top 5 if he can get his body right.

Pendlebury and Gilbert are the two standouts in what is a pretty strong crop.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

I don't get the whole 'but it's hard to judge player x/y/z as they haven't played in a top team yet' argument.

Do you think the reason some players have always been in a good team is because of the way they are contributing to it?

Pendlebury and Thomas have played finals every year of their AFL careers so far. Same can be said of Joel Selwood and Harry Taylor at Geelong. Maybe their teams are good because these players are contributing in lifting their teams to the higher level?

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Re do this thread in 5 years and I reckon Garrick Ibbotson will be one of the best performed players from this draft. Currently injured but is part of leadership group, improving all the time and still has plenty of scope for improvement

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

From what I've gleaned in last years final's series & the start of this year, DT is above Murphy's level.

Nar Murphy has been very strong since he has been drafted he would only be behind scott p IMO and a blanket can get throw over the likes of Ryder Gilbert Josh k Higgins and swallow sorry to any I forgot. But those two are a clear one two.

Pretty tough on Murphy there. He is a better mid than Swallow.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

I think Ryder is in most peoples top 5, he looks ready to play a huge year for the 1st time, at 22 it could be his time to start hitting 3rd 4th and 5th gear. Great pick at 7.
I would only pick Pendlebury ahead of him, Ryder is the perfect player since the new sub rule has come in, could be worth his weight in gold.

Good draft for us
Ryder
Dempsey
Lonergan
Hocking Rookie draft

I would Highly doubt this now mate. He can still Rise up the Board but I can't see him being the best
